2013 Haswell Retina MacBook Pro...

How do you find the 13", I understand Mavericks + haswell as fixed the scrolling on most OSX apps but how is it on chrome for sites like the verge. Outside of this I don't have much issues with getting 13".

I will be going to check them both out tomorrow and see what I end up getting. Will order tomorrow thou. Good luck with all you guys deciding, I think I will end up with a 13" and I will try it for 1 week and return if it doesn't work for me.

I've not really got anything to compare it to but scrolling seems fine! Just loaded up The Verge on Chrome and I don't appear to have any issues scrolling (No stutter or lag)

I'm wondering if I'm lazy and should get the 750m model (even tho won't use it) as I want the 16 GB ram.

I was just looking at the base!

I wonder if the 750m can be disabled completely unless you want it (not automatic switching)

Or is this lazyness and i should order base with ram change online

I thought the same, but I wanted the 16GB RAM and the 512GB storage, then extra CPU speed and GPU worked out to be an extra £90, so it was a no brainer.

I do all my development on my Mac and Im looking to move all video editing over too for my youtube channel, so it depends on your use case.

The 15inch is actually more expensive then previous gen.

Why? Well the base unit of the previous one already came with a nvidia GPU. With this one you have to spend over 2k to get the extra GPU

I was set on getting the Macbook Air 13" because of its battery life, weight and decent resolution but this new Haswell 13" Macbook Pro's seems to offer everything (almost) I wanted from Macbook Air with extra performance at similar price.

The only thing that is holding me back is the retina display. Those with retina macbook pro what are your experiences with the following?

- Are there enough apps supporting the retina display?
- Any of these apps retina friendly - Adobe Suite, Lightroom, Sublime Text (Code Editor), Parallels Desktop, Cyber Duck, Steam etc.
- Whats the quality like for non retina resolutions like 1680 x 1050?
- Does it run hot like the old 2008-2010 Macbook pro's?
- Does it lag or hang due to the scale of the resolution?

Thanks.

The majority of Apps support the retina display. Adobe, Lightroom, Sublime Text and Parallels do not sure about the others. Gets a little fuzzy if an app doesn't support retina. Gets warm but not red hot. Apparently there is no lag now.

Heading in to apple to do a full power trial between the two 15incb models.

I'll be running a series of battery tests and heat tests.

Also going to see how much difference the 750M card makes.

Preparing for dispatch :D

Tested

10 minutes on average battery life difference when running a 4K video.

No temperature difference, SSD feels faster on higher spec model.

However Ram was an a issue

With identical programs and video running the 8GB was maxing out due to the iris pro borrowing nearly 1-2gb of system memory. Due to SSD not such an issue but I'm recommending 16GB.

cheers thanks i will get 16gb version

Went for the top apex you can get in store.

Can't feel it really in a backpack.

He said the top model has been selling out in the country...

Didn't see point in upgrading the base unit when it comes shy of the better spec.

I think it worked out for me that I got the CPU bump nearly "free" then a BTO

First impressions are;

- Screen is beautiful.
- The OS feels like it has a little bit of lag, coming from a Macbook Air 12'. Specifically, in 'About this mac - more info' clicking between the tabs the information lags. I've got the 2 side by side, it doesn't lag at all on the air. It's minor, but it's something i've noticed.
- The difference in screen real estate is very noticeable, i'm not sure I like it :( Think i'll use the scaled display and see how it feels.
- The mag safe 2 is just as crap on both. Whoever designed this thing should be shot.

Ordered the top spec 15" rMBP. Should be a nice upgrade from the 2010 13" MBP I use every day for development. :D

I was tempted by the 1TB flash upgrade but it's just crazy money.

Think I'll be getting the 13" rMBP - 2.4Ghz, 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD. I'm fairly sure I don't need the 16GB, but I don't know whether it's worth the extra £80 for the 2.6Ghz processor.
