2013 Haswell Retina MacBook Pro...

OK, after an evening with my 13" RMBP, I don't understand why the 13" Air exists.
The 13" RMBP is 1mm thicker than the Air (at it's thickest point), 14mm wider and 27mm deeper. It weighs 490g more.
Hardly a big difference, but it's much more powerful, has a much better screen and is only £150 more expensive.

£150 is still a lot to some people I would guess, but I agree its such a better machine for the price difference.

Also the 13" Air was first released when the 13" MBP was in it's older, larger form factor. Many users have reported that despite what seems like only a marginal difference in weight, the Air is still noticeably lighter.

However, the new form factor of the 13" rMBP does make it much more appealing given the performance difference for the extra cost.

There are a few valid reasons why you would go for the Air instead of the Pro:
  • Slightly longer battery life (the difference isn't massive but may be enough for some). No idea about the projected numbers but if I'm just taking notes battery life on my Air is well above 13 hours.
  • Blurriness at scaled resolutions on the rMBP. Many aren't bothered by this, but those that are (including me) find this horrible - my eyesight is bad enough!
  • The difference in form factor and weight is slim (pun not intended), however if you carry the device in a thin sleeve the MBA will still feel quite a bit thinner. Not something that would cause you to buy one over the other, but potentially a "bonus" in addition to the above points.
  • The £150 difference simply isn't worth it if you don't see the benefits of the rMBP! CPU performance is very, very close too.
Quite frankly though, the majority of people who have the money to spend will probably be happier with the rMBP.

The screen is far superior to the MBA imo.

Anyways i have a question for u all.

Can anyone recommend me a Sleeve for my 13 inch mbpR?

If you have an android phone use Package Tracker Pro. It gives you notifications every time your parcel moves.

The number is generated when Apple process the order for dispatch, but won't show on UPS until it's actually been collected by the courier.

I had no issues. The tracking number for UPS was available within 24 hours of me placing the order.

Maybe call them?

Gave them a call and their systems are down, and they can't find my order online.

Hoping that its all ok. I ordered the top spec 15" on the 5th just before I stopped working for Apple. Will be seriously miffed if something has happened.

The tracking for my replacement is also down since 2am. Doubt it's anything to worry about.

System is back up now. Phew! Worried that leaving the company they'd cancel my order. Too spec 15" retina and AppleCare for £1400 :D

Anyone tried gaming on theirs?

Apple says estimated delivery is Weds for mine but UPS says by end of day Tuesday, hopefully UPS are right.

It's in the country already and had departure scan so Tuesday sounds about right.

For mine, Apple had an estimated delivery date of Nov 5th, UPS said Nov 2nd... And then they delivered it on Oct 31st
