*** The Official Playstation 4 (PS4) Thread ***

I think the issue is that some of the time (not all), the differences between versions can only be shown in a static image, as when they are in motion it's incredibly hard to tell the difference. CoD is the game where the difference is probably most obvious, but in a lot of other games I think it would take screenshots to be able to notice. As we don't play games frame by frame, I think that's why some people say the difference isn't that big.

Oh yeah they definitely emphasise the difference but there isn't much option. I mean to my eyes, I could spot 720/1080 a mile off 100% of the time but I know some others wouldn't notice but that doesn't detract from the fact that the console is struggling to push performance anywhere near the PS4.

p.s. I ninja edited above as I remembered a debate about a month ago before release on a similar subject.

Over at NeoGaf a lot of people that own both consoles have said they can cleary see the difference on multi platform games.

Like I said, on some of them you can, with BF4 and CoD being the most likely two games (and probably AC4). Put on something like Fifa, NBA 2K, Need For Speed or Madden, and see how similar they look.

Edit: Also, it's NeoGaf, I think some people over there would tell you the sky is red and try to have you believe it.

Davey said to me, basically, that I was talking nonsense when I said there was no way the Xbox One would push 60 FPS 1080p in BF4 without dramatic detail reduction and I felt it was unlikely on the PS4 though the hardware difference would help it to achieve this.

What happened? Alas :D.

Not having a dig Davey, just a polite, belated, "I told you so!" :p.

I don't remember saying that specifically, but if I did, I will obviously stand very corrected! :D

They're all running same res, FPS and settings though aren't they?
Yup, that's the point I'm making. To some people, probably the ones who love sports games like the ones I mentioned, there really isn't much difference between the consoles.

Just to be clear, I'm not for a single minute trying to say the XB1 is as powerful as the PS4, just trying to suggest why some people might see them as fairly similar.

Well yes, it's not surprising that in games where no emphasis is put on graphics they will look identical as there is no benefit to tweaking the PS4 verison.

Edit: Also, it's NeoGaf, I think some people over there would tell you the sky is red and try to have you believe it.

It's such a cesspit on there, I can't believe how many people still browse those forums.

With most of those games I'd agree, but not NBA 2K. It's one of the most graphically impressive next-gen games IMO.

I'll take their opinion over a reviewer any day of the week.

Has there been any word yet from suppliers of a more certain date when they will be getting stock?

Someone at work has said February/March??!! :(

Of course you have to compare to see the difference, how can you tell something is better or worse than something else if you haven't seen both?

Cause a lot of the time they are having to use static images from motion vids to point out the tiniest of differences from 3rd party Devs on the first round of games. Ive seen most cross platform games running on both side by side, theirs not a lot in it.

I point stand as I have always said, for the sheer amount of "raw power" the PS4 claims to have, the reality of those "specs" are no where to be seen.

Amazon are getting more of the PS4 Gamer Pack (Killzone, extra controller, PS Eye) on the 11th December if their site is to be believed. Also, I think ShopTo are still guaranteeing pre-Christmas delivery if you order now.

Out of the 4 games I currently have for the PS4 / One:

Killzone - indoor graphical elements are boxy and quite reminiscent of Halo 4. Slowdown and texture pop-in is apparent in a few sections.

Dead Rising 3 - Slowdown in the introductory sections but minor elsewhere. Graphically very impressive with minimal pop-up for such a large scale. Don't really see why people say the graphics are poor.

Forza 5 - Graphics are an unimpressive jump from Forza 4, but the framerate is a rock solid 60 so that's fine.

Fifa 14 -Slowdown from the 360 version is pretty much eliminated, overall the game looks better and the additional animations make for a more lifelike presentation. The loading on throwins where it is disguised as the player holding the ball (but unable to throw it) is pretty naff.

None of these games are what i'd call particularly impressive from a next-gen technical point of view.

You can't ignore the fact that if both consoles ran a game at the same res the more powerful one would have more room for more effects and things. At the minute developers are choosing to use the extra headroom for easy stuff that can be done at the press of a button so higher res, more aa or other graphical effects.

My PC is hooked up to my main TV and I swopped between 720p and 1080p on a few games just to see and I can't say I agree with the similar looking thing in the slightest. The scalers I have in my setup are the best in the business, I can choose the GPU scaler, the one in my Onkyo AV receiver or the excellent one in my TV so its certainly not a scaler thing either.
