330i saloon advert reads well and is a good price, he seems very knowledgeable and hes correct that the oil level sensor is a cheap and easy replacement.

If I were in the market for an E46 then I would go and view with the intention of buying, looks a decent example :)
 
Time has come to wave goodbye to the 325ti, now searching for a 130i or 125i coupe (and a remap). Had a look at a peach of a Z4 3.0si coupe at the weekend, a car I have long lusted for, only to find that there simply isn't enough legroom in there for me to fit. Heartbroken =(

Nevermind though, now focused on tracking down a well specced and relatively low milage 130 or 125. Seem rarer than hens teeth down my neck of the woods though!

Thanks Vox, my thoughts too.

I owned a 330i for a year but with half the mileage. Is there anything I should be specifically looking out for at its current mileage?
 
Looking at E90 330/5i saloons now :( there are a few 56-08s going under £10k how well does the 330 stack up against the E46 330ci?

What to look out for? One thing I do know is to keep out an eye out for one with iDrive, i'm looking at the Msports, the SEs just look bland boring...and a bit povety spec looking.

Doesn't help that I had a go in my Sister friend's 335i msport Saloon, and my god that sound and speed, it is just glorious.

This is what springs to mind for me:

Suspension refresh
Cooling system refresh
Leaky valve cover gaskets
Vanos issues
Cam position sensors

You and I both know that whilst most people will see it as a fast 3 series, it is a lot more than just that.

Of course but it won't feel like a 55k car inside. I think Housey had it summed up well when he said how they now feel just too close a Porsche price wise.

An M135i is half the price. Is it only half the car?

I don't want to put you off but I don't see anything in that advert to suggest why he is asking what I would consider strong money for a saloon.

At the end of the day you can only judge when you see the car and talk to the owner but he mentions nothing of work that has actually been carried out - have the most likely suspects been done over the last few years? Maybe its not needed anything ( or he may just not have detailed it) but that doesn't mean it won't happen.

Tyres on the front are kumho which although they will likely be reasonable I'd rather a matching set. Rust on the rear arch, no matter how minor he says it is needs sorted. Rust is rust and on an e46 you'll want to control it.

Oil level sensor is cheap and easy to replace...so why hasn't he? I've driven a few where the red sensor will stay on for a few seconds from cold start whilst it builds pressure but his issue sounds like the sensor itself which is a no brainer just to sort.
 
Agreed Rodenal, my thinking is that the advert is quite honest in nature so I guess I was drawn to that more than anything.

The issue is, E46 330i/Ci's in good, honest condition are so rare it's hard to know what to buy.

Thanks for the feedback - by all means I'd rather be put off than go in with my eyes closed and buy the wrong thing. It's not exactly close to me, either.

A base spec 911 costs £73k and by the time you've added metallic paint, Xenons, park assist, pro nav, cruise, folding/elec mirrors & seats and everything else the M3 comes with you're looking at well over £80k.

That's an easy £25k difference for a car with less power. Is the Porsche worth 50% more than the M3?

Looking back to when Housey bought his M3 the price difference between an M3 and 911 was roughly the same as now. I'm guessing around £30k to £55k?

Most of those options are STD on the M3/M4
