found a drive for £50

ST500LM000

Seagate 500GB Laptop Thin SSHD SATA 6GB/s 64MB 7mm Hard Drive

verified working with PS4

should be able to sell old drive for £30 meaning it's a £20 upgrade not bad, i doubt i'll ever need 1TB I have 320GB spare on the PS4 as it is, no way I am going to fill that when i only play a handful of games most of which are sold on within 6-12 months (therefore I would delete them off the drive)

gonna order one now worth it for £20 i reckon

edit:

just ordered that for £52.97 including delivery

anyone sold their stock PS4 drive? how much did you get for it?

I have a 1TB SSHD drive in mine, cannot say it makes much difference tbh. A few seconds here and there on the most played games at most.

I would keep your original drive incase you need to send it back ?

I'd still have gone for 1tb given the size of games

not for my useage

fifa is only 13GB and it's the main game I play tbh apart from BF4.

I don't play any single player games apart from really good ones like GTA which I won't be buying for a long time (already played it on PS3 and the PS4 version isn't going to be released for ages).

A lot of games aren't that big I reckon a 500GB drive could easily hold 20-40 games, I will never have that many at the same time.

I can't see me buying a new game for quite a while tbh, happy with BF4, war thunder and BF4, i could easily go 6 months without buying another game.

I reckon you could send it back without any hard drive and explain to them that you had upgraded it, surely the technicians have spare hard drives to test consoles, etc.

Are SSHDs really good alternatives to ordinary SSDs? What kind of read/write speeds do they see?

It gives you the best of both worlds.

CHEAP, LARGE and FAST

basically all the advantages with none of the disadvantages, for the sake of £20-£30 i thought why not, whereas the equivalent SSD would cost me £200+ which is ten times as much as this upgrade shall cost me.

Got my PS4 delivered today. In the build up to launch I had always planned to get one on launch day however the cost combined with the apathy towards the depleted launch lineup meant I thought I would wait until an undetirmined future date. Having sold my ps3 along with a bunch of games for a figure around £400, I felt the time was right to jump in. Here are my thoughts:

Firstly, I got the console with Battlefield 4 from (not sure if I can mention competitors?) for £360. In anticipation of the purchase I had also ordered the lego movie game when it was mispriced at 24.99 as well as the skylanders starter pack on offer for 29.99. I had also added Resogun, Don't Starve and Outlast online as part of my PS plus membership so they were ready to go as well, giving me a good selection of games to play for sub £400.

Overall I'm hugely impressed with it and very surprised at a great deal of the whining over there not being enough games to play. The interface and the games themselves all feel impressively next gen. Yes BF4 may not be mind blowing but my feeling on it are that given that we have just had games like GTA 5 and The Last of Us giving spectacular end of gen experiences squeezing every last drop of life out of the PS3, that the new games are even noticeably impressive is pleasing and I can't wait to see what we're playing 12, 24, 36 months from now.

I think also now is a great time to jump in because by the time I have played through the launch stuff, Infamous, Thief and Ground Zeros will be available, followed shortly after by UFC (which I have preordered at 37.99). Following this we have the likes of Witcher, Dragon Age, Destiny etc before whatever Sony have lined up for Xmas (one of a new Fallout, Mass Effect or Uncharted would be amazing!). I really can't understand peoples complaints about the software available as there is lots of good to play and lots of potentially great stuff on the horizon and unless you literally spend all day every day playing games there is ample content to sate most appetites.

Major thumbs up!

Have suddenly got addicted to Resogun, however with only average skills keep losing my bottle / anger during the final level on experienced and missing out on the trophy for not using all your lives.

I still dive straight back in to try again which is a sign of an enjoyable game to me, specially as I have never really been a fan of this type of game, god help me and my controller when I get round to Veteran mode, think I'll try some co-op there.

Love to see what other Resogunners high scores are - add me for that or the co-op mode!
Cant wait for Dead Nation

when we talk about how many games it can hold, do you mean digital downloads or installs from disc based games? I managed to fill the PS3 but PS+ was to blame for that really.

£400 for a PS3 with games? you must have had like either 20 top quality games or a mixture of quality and 30+ titles

second hand PS3's are worth like £100 and second hand games are worth peanuts apart from the very best new titles.

so good on you for getting £400 for the lot

BF4 is really good now I'm getting into it and adjusting from COD, you should head over to the BF4 thread and add the rest of us on here.

Also brilliant you got the new lego game for that price, it's now nearly double that. I think, i'll wait 6-9 months and get it second hand for £15 no doubt.

Also the same for UFC for me i'm afraid, it's been taken over by EA and I don't trust them to deliver, I'll wait until it's sub £20 before purchasing but £38 for it's a decent enough price.

You should also look at War Thunder if your int dogfighting games (it's free on the PSN store), it's also getting a huge upgrade soon where you can also be a tank commander, so it's not all about dogfighting (well it is for now but should change soon).

It's a pretty amazing game for free to play.

I'm on about 72mil on experienced i think. I keep getting to the end if level 3 with about 60 odd mil and gimping the last two levels.

Thought I had you on my friends list but I'm up for a challenge with anyone that's interested.

Edit: did you cull me from your friends list? How rude!!! :D

Will do.

I went through a stage where I was back gaming on the pc so you probably dropped me then. Sold up my gaming rig though after pre ordering too many games only to find they were buggy pieces of rubbish when they were released.

I've got a similar culling rule on psn although I'm much more lenient at 6 months.

I started doing it when one of the FIFAs had a launch bug for a few months where you arent allowed over 50 friends otherwise it would kick you from online games. The COD clause definitely improves the quality :p.

Dno how people need more than 100 people on their FL - just so hard to manage!

Ive sent you a FR :) - might hit you up for some Resogun co-op...

That's a risk. I had my PS4 replaced last week and Sony asked me if I had changed the HDD. I said yes and they said I need to put the original back in to send it back.

I had mine in my PS3 and it was full so I had to swap them back over and send it in. Now having to download everything back ontp the PS3 (the 500GB was full) which is a HUGE pain!!!!!! Honestly, this has made me realise that the way the PS4 downloads and installs games is the best improvement of the new console. Having 30 10GB+ games to install on PS3 takes weeks and the console can't do anything else while it's doing that. I'd forgot how painful that was.

100GB downloads/install back onto PS4 took about 1 hour for the lot and that's while I used the damn machine!

I really wish they let you custom sort your friends list.
I have 7 real life mates on my friends list and in particular 5 of them I play with almost every time I'm online but it's a right pain trying to see if they are online.

Even if it just prioritised those who you accept name requests with or something.

Not a major issue at all - but just a very easy thing to add that would be really nice. I'm all for having lots of people on my list for high scores, or partying up sometimes but no offense to people but if my mates are on, then I'm playing with them 100% of the time.

Console is great but really looking forward to the non-essential, bonus updates and add-ons that will start to arrive after the Japan launch settles
