*** The Official Playstation 4 (PS4) Thread ***

Ah so you dont have to connect it to the controller aswell? I wasnt sure on that. I guess the USB serves as both power for the Mixamp and chat. Only slight complication for me is the need for an optical splitter as I use it for my speakers right now...

How good are the Astros? Would I lose anything by going for the A40s over A50s? Dont need wireless for my setup. Would like to have maybe gone for HD558s+good mic+mixamp but not sure how much better that would be...

Anyone using them for the PS4?

ps3ud0

I have the A40's and A50's. The A40's I have are the older model without the different modes so when I got the A50's I thought they sounded better (I love both of them though). I'm guessing the recent A40's are the same though so it will depend if you want the wireless or not..

I use the A50's all the time with the PS4, Xbone and PC with no problems.. I just have an optical switch to choose the different inputs.

Yeah that what made me make the post, considering how expensive the Mixamp is on its own (I get the impression its the best at what it does) I thought I might just get the A40s and if I dont appreciate the sound from them I havent spent that much more than just getting the Mixamp.

For gaming the A40s seem to be more than adequate, Im used to using normal headphones though (coming from HD595s). Right now though I really want a good headset

I do like Kre* setup, just a lot of money to throw at it and Id probably go for headphones+mic...

That was my reasoning too - Since the Amp is like £110 by itself you're only really paying £60 for the headset, which isn't bad considering their quality and sound (the detachable microphone that can go on either side is neat too). You could probably get better ones at that price range but I like having some Astro headphones to go with the MixAmp :p will probably get a pair of Sennheiser's later, but figured they'd be more than adequate for the time being (and could probably resell them to make some of the money back).

Definitely do not regret buying them though, they're incredible and I'm blown away by the sound quality.

It's 5 e's!

Kree to the power of e :o

Sorry to be a pain but which switch is that as Ill probably end up using them for my PC too. Presume they all do the same job so just get the cheapest?!?

Excellent, pleased at the positive comments as Ive been wanting a decent headset since getting the PS4 and was expecting PS4 headsets to turn up and make it an obvious choice but found nothing. I hear Astros are built well (better than TBs etc) so definitely gonna get them - just need to get a holiday paid off first!

Thanks for the help all...

I use the A50's with my PS4 and they are excellent... I previously had the A40's and they were also excellent, for sound, chat and ease of use.
I only went for the A50's because I prefer the wireless, otherwise there is no noticeable difference in the two.
I think that you will be impressed with the build quality of the headset as they were definitely made to last and are very sturdy compared to previous headsets I have used.
The only slight downside is Sony not putting a USB port on the back of the PS4 so having to connect the mixamp via the front ports. I am used to this now though ;)

I actually use a Lindy 4 Way TosLink Digital Optical Audio Switch which is about £65 or so, it's a powered switch and ideal for what I wanted. That said you can get cheap manual switches on the bay which will probably do the same thing.

nope, they couldn't work it out on the forum i looked at and multiple people were complaining about them not working.

some people say that some SSD's don't work either or they work but the PSN store doesn't load.

if you are looking at a drive make sure 100% that it works before you buy it by googling the model number and the word PS4.

lies.com! - I've got Momentus 750Gb XT in mine from day one - it works perfectly. I believe its the 7200RPM, and it also has the slightly larger cache.

In terms of wether or not it gives a tangible performance benefit - I couldn't say as I've not tried a normal HDD nor any other SSHD

Thanks dude - need to work out what I need as its a bit more complicated than I first thought! My main need is to spilt the PS4 optical out and then worry about the PC on top of that :p

Still not made a headset purchase. was looking at Sennheiser 360D with an Astro mixamp but then I heard some Astro A40 and although I've always dismissed virtual surround as gimmicky, I thought it sounded pretty good.
Tempted by the A50's now as the wireless will be really nice to have. There is the new Wireless Headset 2.0 out this Friday but I'm not convinced a £70 headset will give me the quality I seek.

well the 500GB doesn't work maybe the 750GB does, i only checked the 500GB tbh but that does seem crazy to think the 750GB has zero issues and the 500GB does, surely the only difference is the size of them?

What are A40's like for surround sound watching movies on ps4?

PS4 is in my bedroom so no room for surround sound. Hoping headphones will be an all in one for gaming and movie watching in bed late at night.

not sure bud - reading through them threads there only a couple peeps reporting issues with them 500Gb sshd's.

If one was going to upgrade you'd expect them to at least get a larger size hdd! - I went for the 750Gb as I checked benchies and they were slightly faster than the newer models. No problems at all and a bargain for £45 :)

think the 500gb model came first, then the 750gb, then the newer 1tb ones - so newer firmware etc, could be the cause......not sure but I wouldn't worry about getting an SSHD as the only ones available now are the 1Tb ones (which I would whole heartedly recommend).

I only need a speed upgrade, there's no way I would fill a 250GB drive never mind 500GB so for me it's pointless buying a larger drive.

anyway the more you have on the drive the slower the drive would be compared to just a 7200RPM drive as the NAND part is only 8GB, say you have 700GB worth of games installed, only 8GB of that 700GB will be stored in the cache, meaning performance would be overall slower than say 700GB stored on a 7200 RPM mechanical drive (because the new SSHD's are 5400RPM only the older ones are 7200RPM).

so I have a 500GB 5400RPM drive with 8GB of NAND, it's a temporary boost until I can get a 250GB SSD for like £50 in a few years.

I don't need any more than 250GB as I only play a handful of games and I wouldn't store games I don't play or old games on the hard drive.

FIFA is only 11-13GB, War Thunder around the same, I think lego is around 4-6GB, BF4 however is quite large can't remember how much exactly but I reckon it's 30GB+.

If the average game is around 10-20 GB, you do the math on how many you can store on a 500GB drive.

I need this game in my life! Seriously hoping it will be on PS+ this month, but I highly doubt it :(
