Sweet! I have bidding of issac on pc would love to see it on the PS4 in 1080p! Pc version only gets 1280x720

I hear Astros are built well (better than TBs etc) so definitely gonna get them - just need to get a holiday paid off first!

Thanks for the help all...

I bought a Turtle beach DSS from £45 from ebay and a second hand pair of TB X12's for £25 nearly 2 years ago. I use them for both my 360 and PS4. Can't fault them to be honest. Saying that one of the wires on the headset is coming lose so I'll need to buy a new pair soon. Gonna get a pair of wireless headphones as the wire for the headphones just gets in the way.

Yeah its a shame, would like to know if this is just natural consolidation or indicative of a dropped project. Only the Ascension team would be early enough in the process for that to be acceptable to me to be dropped...
looks like I was right about thuway not being an industry insider and talking complete BS otherwise he would have known about this since he talks about SM a lot.
Like a broken watch I guess ;)

Yeah sounds like you got value there - maybe Im cheap but spending £150+ on gaming headset I expect it to last most of the generation. Its only what Ive read about TBs build quality that put me off, especially as I think they are gonna make some of the official headsets...

The wireless TB's I'm looking at are around £100. Can use them with my DSS as well so I'll still get dolby surround. I think the only reason the current pair have gone funny is because I'm always fighting with the wires as they tend to wrap around everything. Wireless won't have that problem(obviously).

Sorry I might have sounded dismissive, but I have no experience with any TBs so wouldnt know past what Ive read. I like the idea of wireless just cant be doing with batteries and rely on the old trope that wired is best for sound...

I actually use a Lindy 4 Way TosLink Digital Optical Audio Switch which is about £65 or so, it's a powered switch and ideal for what I wanted. That said you can get cheap manual switches on the bay which will probably do the same thing.

The manual switches are terrible and completely waste of money.

Me and 3 mates have TB headsets from 6 years ago that we used on 360, and also on PC. No wear and tear at all.
We all bought a new pair though for PS4 for £30 and voice chat sounds as clear as if they are sitting next to you. Sounds quality is more than good enough for me although obviously won't compare to an expensive set.
But when I have them on, it's for chat and the chat is as good as you could possibly get. Whne I'm not chatting, the home cinema system takes care of business.

Everyone has different needs of course but I was looking at really expensive ones and so glad I didn't bother as they would be wasted on me.Took a chance and it paid off.

I've done hours and hours of research lately and from what I gather, you get pretty much what you pay for with it, that said, if you don't have anything decent to start with then it's unlikely you'll be disappointed.
Those with an AV receiver, can they give the virtual surround through headphones like Astro headsets do with the Mixamp? I've decided on getting a really decent pair of headphones as I don't talk online so don't need to pay extra for the 'gaming' tag. but I'd like the option to use a virtual surround for some games and stick to stereo for the rest of them.

headphones are usually 2.0

so using a surround input isn't going to change the fact they are 2.0

what headphones are you looking at?

I know that but Virtual surround will 'replicate' it so some degree, that's all the Astro's do, they only have 2 drivers. I'd only want it for games where positional sound is required, which is usually shooters which I don't play often so not a massive deal. Current short list is Beyerdynamic DT880 (and 990) or Sennheiser HD600. It's a shame I don't have any stores near me where I can try them first. I don't know if 32 or 250 ohm is 'better' either, absolute minefield.

Not sure if it's been posted yet, but it looks like Dead Nation might be the free ps plus game for PS4 in March https://www.gamepointsnow.com/blog/...ope-content-includes-dead-nation-for-ps4/#nnn

Housemarquee posted this not so long ago too, I am still hoping it is BOI rather than Dead Nation!

Hold your horses, we'll have all the answers you want in the next 24/48h, and not much before that.

Dead Nation + BOI would be awesome though :P

you would likely need a DAC/AMP to use headphones which are harder to drive, sorry I don't know your full setup and how it's all set up so I'm just guessing here.

if all your looking for is decent sound and want an easy to drive pair of quality decent headphones, then AT50's or HD25-1 ii's would be a much easier option imo and they would plug straight into the controller but i imagine plugging them into a DAC or AMP would produce even better SQ.

it all depends on what you would be happy with and what your willing to pay for.

no point spending £200+ if your not a pure audiophile and £100 would to the job exceptionally well compared to what your used to. comparatively even a really good pair of £30-40 headphones may be a massive improvement to what you are used to and then even spending £100-£150 may be a waste.

if you are an audiophile though and have used DAC's in the past as well as FLAC instead of MP3, etc then yeah a £200+ setup would be justified.

imo forget virtual surround, stereo should tell you whether or not sound is coming from your right or left, which is what virtual surround would do.
