been looking for petrol a4's for ages in wales, rarer than rocking horse ****, it seems :p think you could trust me some deets on the car if you are thinking about selling :) (though have started looking at S4's too xD )

If I were you I'd consider going a bit older for a hawkeye estate or something. Not sure where the GB270 estate sits in price these days for example. I don't think a hatch WRX is going to be anything but a bit meh and not worth that kind of money. But a bit older, with a PPP or similar mods would do well I think :)

Now if it was a US hatch then I'd say differently, but the hatch WRX the UK got was a bit bland.
 
Right folks, looking for the combined hive opinion of this car I might be buying. Guy seems genuine and is giving me first refusal. No advert as its not for sale, so here is some info from various PMs....

£8500 + full tank of v-power is best price I can get him to. Wouldn't take £8400.

The condition of the car is very very good , other than the paintwork as mentioned on the bonnet [been sprayed, but he said in certain light you can tell] it's all in good shape with only very minor age related marks , the interior is excellent , no wear on seats , everything works exactly how it should , air con is very cold etc , no problems atall

I'll get these brakes etc done and I'll get a large amount of photos taken over the weekend , I'll take detailed photos of all panels and interior /wheels etc

Lastly price , I've looked at loads for sale , some cheap , some expensive , some crazy money etc , the market for the widetrack seems to be between

£7500 - £10k

£7500k gets you a rough round the edges 85-100k car
£10k gets you a 1 owner 40k car , or a jdm / modified car like the wide blob that he's was selling on here , with this in mind and looking at everything for sale ATM I'm going to be putting an asking price on mine of

£8500

Id rather tell you exactly where I am with price and not waste your time , there's nothing worse than a wasted journey to view a car and it not to be what you expected , so you will have all the details , photos etc you need before travelling so you know exactly what to expect

Mechanically the car really is spot on , pulls very strongly , clutch , gearbox etc are all spot on , no nasty noises etc , uses no oil at all

Is there any questions you have ? Anything you want to know that I've missed ?

Tyres are all matching avon , fronts have around 4mm backs 5-6mm

The reg on the car is an Irish reg not a private reg , the car came from Northern Ireland , so the reg will stay with the car (HRZ 2104)

Last service was in December 2013 , service included brake pads and full rebuild on rear shocks

There's 1 previous owner on the v5 , however I believe the car has actually had 2 previous owners , when you bring a car over from Northern Ireland you get issued a uk v5 and the owners part gets re-set to show owner as zero again , although There's actually been 2 owners

Both keys are present yes , also the car is fitted with a viper xv480 cat 1 alarm with a pager remote . The pager is brand new

There are quite a few invoices etc with the car , inc receipt for the Cambelt etc , the Cambelt was changed in 2009 although I believe it was at around 50k , so the car has done less than 20k since

How badly do you want the car? How long have you been waiting for the right one? Are you planning to sell any time soon after?

If this is a car to keep, go drive it, pay the extra and get on with it. Or.. go and get a non DCCD car for a decent bit less :)
 
I think Kosta raises a good point, if you plan to keep for car for a while i woulnd't let the milage bother you.

When i bought mine it was over 50k (57 i think?) but i knew i'd be keeping it for several years so it was usefully cheaper than low mileage cars at the time which enabled me to do some track days in it!
 
More to the point, how low do you think the mileage on a nine-year old car is going to be? 60k miles is pretty good. Any lower and I'd worry about how little it had been driven, not how much.

But yes, if you plan to sell the car on, that mileage is high. If you plan to keep the car until it breaks though, I can't see an issue. A factory-standard STI is certainly good for 120k miles. The highest verified figure I've seen for any turbo scoob is 146k, and I would budget on a 140k maximum. Mods will generally lower those figures, but as long as the work was done by someone who knew what they were doing (especially any map) then you can pretty much bank on 120k miles. Unless you are unlucky. Or it's a 2.5 litre, in which case the engine will explode as soon as you exceed 3214rpm. Apparently.

For comparison, most of the serious work wasn't done on my car until about 50k miles. It is now on 85k miles, and the only thing wrong with it, is that the steering pump belt squeals for a couple of seconds when you start it. Saying which has probably cursed the thing...

Funny you mention that, my Dad's WRX had the same thing 2 weeks ago. Replaced the belt and all is well again, but am assuming the pump is possibly on the way out as the steering is quite stiff when cold despite new fluids.

I thought that as well, so I had the pump taken out and sent off for refurb. There was nothing wrong with it. But when it was put back in the thing was fine for months. Cars are like people: they get more and more creaky with age, but mostly still work.
 
Talking this morning with the seller of the above black STI I posted. Think I can get him down on price now to something more reflective of the mileage. Hoping to come to an arrangement today and go pick her up next Saturday :)
 
Kosta, didnt realise you knew Birchy over on Scoobynet. Just PMed him about the car, as not sure if hes sold it or had a few problems with it, judging by his scoobynet posts possibly the latter.

Discounted his initially due to no DCCD, but starting to wonder if no DCCD is just like leaving a DCCD model in auto, which I would anyway.

Do you know the car/seller enough to vouch for them at all? Seen you offering help to diagnose an engine management light ?
