Who here owns a Subaru?

I can remember being scared of mine when I first got it and I've ran more performance cars then I dare admit to.

For me though it wasn't the outright speed, it was the confidence in throwing such a large saloon car through a roundabout when I've always had hot hatches.

Still have some learning to do with 4WD :D

Insurance actually isn't too sad. Baring in mind its a Jap import. Its only £2000 comprehensive.

I did feel confident chucking it around corners, but the brutality this thing goes to 60 is crazy. Its not stock either. so add that onto the Insurance price. It becomes less and less sensible of an idea.

It's a beautiful car though. Ill get some pictures up.

20G TD05 makes it fly, and the full catless Nur spec is intresting to say the least.

Are you a crap driver?

Would you give a 250+ hp car to a brand new driver? No. you wouldn't its not the fact I am crap. Tbf I probably am. Its the fact that I do not have the road experience that some drivers have. Yes I could crash my 80 HP 106 by being silly. But crashing a 250 HP car will undoubtably kill me.

My obvious stupidity would be the death of me. If I drove this. I would push it too far in the wrong conditions and hopefully only taking myself out in the process and not someone else.

How old are you? It's really about your attitude, not the car. Scoobys in my opinion are pretty safe and easy cars to drive fast, now the fact that you are a new driver so will be taking things quite easily, I don't see how you can really get yourself into massive trouble.

A lot of youngsters drive crap boxes and still thrash the nuts off them but don't have the grip or the braking power so can easily get into bother.

I used to be a pretty inexperienced driver and my first car (at 22) was a 300bhp 2005 STi, it's all about your attitude.

What are people's opinion's on the WRX hatchbacks?

I am seriously considering one as my next car once I sell my Audi.

Just want to know what I am letting myself in for and any specific things I should be aware of when viewing?

Any input?

They're alright. Any particular reason you are drawn to one?

I believe the WRX-S was meant to be quite good.

2.5 warnings as ever apply, check for coolant usage etc. could have head gasket issues (although the WRX issues are a lot less than the STi) - apart from that they're generally quite reliable cars.

What's there to know about the Blobeye WRXs, besides the low power from which I know can have good gains from a remap after a decent exhaust and breathing mods done.

Always fancied a impreza and these can be picked up for decent money these days.

Again not a lot goes wrong with them.

Common areas of rust are the rear arches and the front "U brace" frame which is a crash aid to help lower the engine in a frontal impact.

Engines, if looked after don't have any common signs of wear. Maybe a bit of piston slap on cold start up, so ensure to hear from cold start.

Calipers can seize the odd piston on the front 4 pots, but not often on the newages.

Ensure that the gearbox oils and diff oils have been changed and not making any funny noises - although they are a more noisey transmission than some are used to.

Clutch, a not too expensive item to replace, but still worth ensuring that the clutch isn't hard, doesn't stink too much doing manoeuvres such as reversing, 3 point turns etc.

Generally, drive a few to get a feel for how they should feel, as on the whole, very reliable cars.

Why so cheap?

A more accurate question would be: why does this scoob owner alone have a realistic idea of what their car is worth? Because that's about right for a 2007 WRX. Pretty much every other scoob I see is over-priced. I'd love to know what those other cars actually sell for (if they do), as opposed to what the deluded owners think they will get.

I'd agree and disagree with you there Meridian.

That example seems cheap IMO. Maybe not massively so, but still cheap. However, you are right that many believe their cars are worth much more than they really area.

But... people are seemingly willing to pay these higher prices for decent cars. I know I would be as there are just too many bad examples around.

I want to replace my A4 Quattro with a newer AWD car. From looking around my choices are pretty limited and I think I have settled on a Impreza WRX as it ticks a lot of boxes for me.

Unfortunately the WRX-S entered the market in 2010 and my budget does not stretch that far.

Who? And how do you know? It seems to me that I see a lot of cars offered for that money, but every time I see a thread on (say) SN about said car the seller is moaning about the lack of interest. In most cases they either withdraw the car from sale, or keep very quiet about how much it went for. When a final sale price is mentioned, it's usually a lot below the original asking. The fact is that interest in scoobs has plummeted, as of about five years ago. Even a good 22B halved in price over about a year. Scoobs are now seen as too vulgar, too old-fashioned, and too expensive to run for the fun.

I for one have been prepared to pay more for a decent example, what's an extra £1000 for a car that will give you more piece of mind?

Well having recently sold mine and having had the amount of interest I had in it I can say that's how I know. Within less than 7 days of putting up my breaking advert, I had a deposit for the whole car, minus a selection of parts to meet the buyers budget.

People are willing to pay for the right cars. As I said, too many bad examples out there, or with bad modifications power/styling or otherwise and that puts people off. A nice clean looking car with a proper history seems to have no issues selling.

I completely understand where you're coming from, don't get me wrong. There's a classic STi on Sn at the moment for £7999 for example and he wonders why it's not shifting.
