It looks identical to UT3...

Because lots of the art and models are directly from UT3... it's all placeholder. They are working on the mechanics of the game first, movement etc.
It looks kinda smooth render wise. I'm guessing all the models will kinda be similar to UT3 because they are going to have some sort of workshop market place where users can create their own content. Plus isn't the game going to be f2p with the content system being the way they'll be making cash off it?
The game is still more then a year away, everything in the youtube vid is placeholder graphics wise. It will look MUCH better then that, it's a modern game and will have cutting edge graphics.

2004 had some great game-types (such as Assault) that Epic couldn't be bothered to do for UT3. Whatever you think of the movement or graphics (that dated quite quickly after a couple of years), I think 2004 was the most complete game, with the most gametypes, maps, community support, etc.
I remember looking at the gamespy player figures, and there was usually some ten times more people playing 2004 than UT3. Still dwarfed by Counterstrike though...
Actually really digging that as a base look for the game - make it very slightly grimier (i.e. similar to a slightly amplified ambient occlusion look) and add in some more of that future industrial style like the circular tunnel bit as part of the actual gameplay areas and it would be a great environment for fragging in.
EDIT: Just had a flash of a mental image of how it would look really run down - vegetation encroaching from above, pipes and wires come loose, etc. makes me want to crack out the map editing tools :S

Either definition. They'll obviously try to push development toward the one that sold more games. Sure, this isn't commercial, but it'll be more popular that way as it's what people wanted.
Looks great, UT99 was the first game I ever played on the PC and I loved it. I didn't even have internet for the first few years even playing against Bots was amazing fun and a great introduction to the FPS genre. I will be getting this for sure.
felt like the highlander running about with that thing xD remember screaming "there can be only one!" when I'd get a kill with it... 
Wasn't that sword part of the Chaos UT mod? That was awesome 
Do like the video teaser of that work in progress map. Nice graphical style. Lots of detail and nice lighting, but not as overly complex as UT3 was. I do still enjoy playing UT3, possibly more so than all other UTs - much better balance on the weapons!
This game has the potential of being so good. I just hope they learn from the lessons that made UT3 flop - ie unusably UI and bugs on release.... It never recovered from that sadly. Hope they make the process around installing and creating maps clearer too. The whole cooked/uncooked thing was a pita.

could well have been! I do remember it being on more medieval/castle like maps.... so many years ago now xD
also remember grabbing th redeemer on the like "towers in space" map (can't remember ANY names lol) and then doing the 999 ammo cheat..... quite funny watching explosions everywhere and pretty sure the fps turned into a very slow flickbook

Give me DM - Pressure, DM - Morpheus, DM-Deck16, CTF- Facing Worlds and some of the other classic maps in a modern engine and i'd be good to go
Got some community versions of Deck and facing worlds we're playing right now.

what was the one that came after UT99 ? was that 2003?
I remember pre ordering the next one soon as I heard there was a UT game, it came, I installed it, played for a few days, then uninstalled it and threw it in the garbage
The melee weapons was bla, but the rest of that mod was awesome. I started with
Q2 chaos, oh man, memories. Man, it would have been a great addition in UT3, imagine the vortex with UT3 graphics, wow. Hope the team does it for UT4/what ever they call it. They kind of did it for UT3, but it didn't really get completed & never really took off.
