*** The Official Google Nexus 7 Thread ***

That looks fine, but the 2013 should always feel snappy!

The 4.4.4 rom brought my 2012 N7 back into a "useful" state, but it still suffered from the same issue it always has when playing audio (Soundcloud/Mixcloud/Spotify). You'd frequently get a horrendous static/distorted buzz noise. And that was with minimal applications installed.

Last night I figured it was about time to root and get a custom rom on there. Settled for Paranoid Android 4.4, as wasn't sure if 4.5 was proper release yet?
This is easily the best this N7 has performed since getting it. Have thrown all my apps back on, and don't appear to have the music stutter issue any more.
Worth doing if you've confined your original N7 to a dusty cupboard.

hope they next gen will be 8" and have physical soft key home button. or something that wake the screen up with a slide finger like the LG G Pad.

You could always install a custom kernel to enable swipe to wake, I've got it set up on mine.

What toolkit did you use to install the custom rom. I have the WugFresh toolkit so presume I can use that?

My nexus 7 2012 is so slow and so is my fiancee's nexus 7 2012. Might do both at same time but want to see which rom is best.

Mine wasn't rooted or anything, until now.

I put pa 4.4 on. Loving it, tablet is so quick. Now just hope the iplayer issues are gone. It starts jerky picture after 10 or so minutes.

My 2012 N7 is so slow now that I'm considering selling it and getting something else. I've recently carried out a factory re-set and only installed my regular apps but that hasn't helped much at all.

Yeah, they're pretty junk now.
I'm pretty happy with how Paranoid Android has turned out so far however. It's so easy to do, you'd be as well give it a go.
It's pretty easy to get it back to stock as well I believe, should it be no use for you!

Both my N7 2012s are now zippy as they should be with this Paranoid Android 4.45 build on.

Have you put a custom rom on such as PA?

My 2012 N7 is pretty sluggish so quite fancy giving PA a go.

Only problem is that I can't find a simple guide for someone that's never rooted or modded an android device before.

Any suggestions?

Very simple, just need correct ADB drivers installed in Windows and a toolkit such as Wug's at wugfresh.com

Then you firstly make a backup of phone (in case anything happens during process) then run Unlock then Root and then flash a zip such as PA and then GApps.

Few snags I had was the USB debugging and getting ADB to work but was simply changing the USB connection settings within Storage in Settings.

Must be a fair few guides on line to be fair. Literally took me 15 mins max to do both my N7s

Apparently, according to Techradar, all models of the N7 on the UK/US Play stores are out of stock.........new tablet about to be announced? Please say it is so, my 2012 N7 is getting really slow!

Hmmm just got a message from the missus saying the iplayer jerky playback is back again, this time straight away not even after 15 minutes of good playback.

BBC iPlayer is screwed on N7 with 4.4.3 and 4.4.4 apparently. Just google searched loads of hits.

iPlayer since the last 2 updates has done this for me. Not had it get better at all since the problem first occurred.
