No I think a hate crime does. If it was a UK punk band barging into a mosque to perform profanity ridden songs insulting Muhammed, Muslims and Islam would you feel the same? or does it somehow make it okay because it was Russian women barging into a church to perform profanity ridden songs insulting Jesus, Christians and Christianity?

You realise I'm a Christian? I never claimed that what Pussy Riot did was OK, just that a two year prison sentence is way too harsh. When Peter Tatchell interrupted the Archbishop of Canterbury's sermon on Easter Sunday a few years ago what was his punishment? Besides, the Russian Orthodox Church brought it on themselves by overtly supporting Putin in the Russian elections.

Poland said the risk of Russia invading Ukraine has increased in the “last dozen hours or so” after President Vladimir Putin increased the number of troops on his country’s western border.

Poland has “reason to believe” that the risk of an incursion is “greater than a few days ago,” Prime Minister Donald Tusk told reporters in Warsaw today. His foreign minister, Radoslaw Sikorski, yesterday said that any incursion would be under the guise of a peacekeeping operation. Russia yesterday called for a humanitarian mission to Eastern Ukraine, which is on the verge of a “catastrophe,” the Foreign Ministry in Moscow said on its website.

Perhaps more worryingly, Kremlin mouthpiece Russia Today has bothered to issue a denial that Russian troops are massing on the border, adding credibility to the worries that Russia really is up to something this time. http://rt.com/news/178444-russia-military-ukraine-nato/

Thing that concerns me most - you can't keep poking at an entity indefinitely and expect to get away with it - if the US, etc. keep it up sooner or later Russia will do something whether dramatic lashing out or something more cleverly engineered who knows.

Yeah, they could simply end up being like: You wanna punish us for interfering in Ukraine? We'll SHOW you what interfering in Ukraine looks like!

the economic war has reached down south, lorries carrying greek apricots and other vegetables turned back yesterday, got refused to enter Russia. Devastating news for the region i happen to live in too. Vast majority of the exports were sent to Russia, i dont know what will happen now, as if the crisis wasnt enough. Talking about caught in the scrossfire...

Depends. The invasion of Iraq was certainly as bad as the invasion of Crimea imo.

Here's a quick list of what Russia has been up to in the last 15 years:

– the prosecution of an horrific war in Chechnya killing tens of thousands;
– the dismemberment of an independent oil company - Yukos - and theft of its assets;
– the expulsion of British Council offices from Russian cities;
– overt support for Yanukovych in the obviously rigged 2004 Ukrainian election;
– reneging on international treaties (Energy Charter, INF, Helsinki Accords, Budapest agreement);
– selling weapons to the Syrian regime;
– the invasion of Georgia, ripping two territories away from it;
– the invasion of Crimea, ripping it from Ukraine;
– an absence of free and fair elections;
– total control over the television media;
– a poor human rights record (assassinations of journalists, Pussy Riot’s incarceration, political prisoners etc);
– the lack of an independent judiciary;
– predatory state-owned corporate enterprises run by security service officials with little regard for sanctity of contract or corporate social responsibility.

You could easily make up a similar list for the USA

Edit

Also the USA is becoming more and more like Nazi Germany.

Most of the points in that list are complete nonsense.

Eg "The US is becoming like Nazi Germany as the state starts to provide free health care."

So... like our NHS then? "Parallels" like that aren't really going to convince anyone. And besides, half the stuff on that list applies to the EU too.

I guess everybody is going to become Nazi Germany! Hopefully we all get the sexy Hugo Boss uniforms :D

Each day, hundreds of schoolchildren appear before courts in Texas charged with offences such as swearing, misbehaving on the school bus or getting in to a punch-up in the playground. Children have been arrested for possessing cigarettes, wearing "inappropriate" clothes and being late for school.

Such cases are not limited to Texas. In one notorious instance in California, a school security officer broke the arm of a girl he was arresting for failing to clear up crumbs after dropping cake in the school canteen.

Russian "aid" convoy on its way to eastern Ukraine. Putin says the mission is in conjunction with the International Red Cross, but reading that article I'm not too sure how much the ICRC have had to do with it. Is this the start of something more sinister? Let's hope not.

International Red Cross have said they will only approve it if they have details of exactly what is being sent, apparently they don't have that yet.

Here's hoping it is real

From the BBC story
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov described the idea of using the aid convoy as an excuse for military action as "absurd" and said the mission was purely humanitarian and non-military..

Didn't Russia capture a load of Ukraine soldiers recently? So they must have a load of Ukraine military uniforms (not that I am sure they could knock some cheap imitations up).

The way Russia has been about this I do not think that it is beyond the realms of possibility that they would go so far as to stage an attack on the convoy and make it look like the Ukraine army did it. Then they have an excuse for a military escort and whammo - Russian military in the Ukraine.

If they truly meant this as a humanitarian mission then would they not wait for the Red Cross approval?

Hope that it is just my imagination at work........

When are the Russian public going to start calling BS on their leaders?
