Ukraine Invasion - Please do not post videos showing attacks/similar

The way Russia has been about this I do not think that it is beyond the realms of possibility that they would go so far as to stage an attack on the convoy and make it look like the Ukraine army did it. Then they have an excuse for a military escort and whammo - Russian military in the Ukraine.

I had a similar thought, I doubt they'll do a false flag attack but I can see them using any interference on the convoy by the Ukrainian military as an excuse to send in the 45,000 troops they have massed on the border, and if I were the Ukrainian military fighting in eastern Ukraine I'd be very unhappy about a suspicious convoy from Russia being delivered to the rebels in Luhansk and Dontesk. It's the same tactics they used on Georgia in 2008 - provoke until the enemy responds then do what you like.

Didn't Russia capture a load of Ukraine soldiers recently? So they must have a load of Ukraine military uniforms (not that I am sure they could knock some cheap imitations up).

Ukraine pretty much still uses Russian uniforms just with diff patches, when this all kicked off loads of people pointed out the striped "Russian" shirts a number of rebels had until it was pointed out it's standard ex-USSR kit which is very easy to come by and the pre-EU activists were wearing them too lol.

What, wait until the enemy invades a neighbour and then smack the crap out of them? May not work too well on Ukraine...

Repeating the lie ad infinitum doesn't make it less of a lie - even the laughably one sided EU report couldn't ignore Russia's actions, and the actions of the pro-Russian separatists in Georgia prior to the crisis.

Quite a lot of the pro-russian elements were also spotted wearing kit with British and German markings - which is very common with surplus but has caused some whacky conspiracy theories lol.

Looks like it's on, like Donkey Kong:

http://www.theguardian.com/world/20...s-enter-ukraine-aid-convoy-stops-short-border

The white trucks of humanitarian aid rumbled through Russia in a convoy stretching for miles, moving slowly southwards on the M4 highway, amid a landscape of fertile fields and Ladas stopped at the roadside – their boots overflowing with watermelons for sale.

But, while the trucks came to a halt well short of Ukraine's border, a different Russian convoy did make the crossing into Ukrainian territory late on Thursday evening.

The Guardian saw a column of 23 armoured personnel carriers, supported by fuel trucks and other logistics vehicles with official Russian military plates, travelling towards the border near the Russian town of Donetsk – about 200km away from Donetsk, Ukraine.

This doesn't look like a full scale invasion to me, just looks like western journalists have finally witnessed what we already knew was happening - Russia was providing direct military aid to the rebels in eastern Ukraine.

Those at the site were dismissive of fears in Ukraine that the convoy may be carrying secret military cargo. Two of the men in brown, who would not give their names but said they were "in charge of the cargo", offered to open any of the trucks picked at random and show what was inside. Men scrambled to untie the cords securing the tarpaulin on two of the trucks chosen by the Guardian and other journalists at the site.

Inside one were white sacks filled with buckwheat, while the other contained stacked cardboard boxes. Three men pulled the tape from one of the boxes to reveal newly packed sleeping bags.

Eastern Ukraine has had the **** bombed out of it by their government for weeks it's probably post apocalyptic right now, if any aid convoys go in they're going to need protection.

So the "humanitarian" mission isn't in conjunction with the ICRC then? Because the ICRC never distributes aid with military protection.

It would be so funny if those 23 personnel carriers are just going to evac the Russian "advisors" before it all hits the fan XD

If it means an end to the violence then I think relief would be the right word. Sadly I don't think Putin is ready to give up on his dream of Novorossiya just yet.

here we go...

Apprently Ukraine forces have just attacked part of the Russian convoy heading into Ukraine. Source - Bloomberg (This isn't on any news sites yet)

most likely what Russia wanted if true, I bet the trucks have nothing but food and water etc russia just wanted it to look suspect so they have an excuse to fully invade crimea

Something was always going to happen. Russia shot down the wrong plane, so now they attack their own convoy. Good enough excuse to attach Ukraine?

Well a lot of journalists have already confirmed they have seen Russian APCs heading into Ukraine

the fact that lots of the trucks are empty just makes this whole convoy thing very strange

edit : distracting everyone with "aid convoy" while sending in the tanks somewhere else?

or sending in apc's / empty trucks to pull out people and gear?
