BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

I wonder when mine will eventually become available :( I will be doing the same upgrade as you, TT SimplyBB to TT Fibre, although i will probably go for the 80/20 package due to the 2mbit upload on the 40.

Yeah the 40 is fine (long as I can stream stuff I'm happy) but the 2mbit is a ploy to get you top pay more

I dunno about going for the 80. I don't really think I need it.

I can't even see it on their site

They do Fibre M (which you have) and Fibre L which is the 80/20

I agree re the 80 download, i dont need it either. The 2 upload is very frustrating though, i get 1.1mbit upload on my ADSL and i find it utterly painful for cloud sync's etc.

i think i can deal with 2mbit up.

i dont really use the cloud (because how slow it was before)

Yeah, not good. Funnily enough the 'maximum data rate' increases the longer it is connected - presently at 13211. But when I resync I get the same 6-7Mb.

I find the stats (maximum rate, noise margin etc) on the hh5 to just be complete nonsense and don't pay much attention to mine.

It's arrived, all connected.
Guy said after he did his test the line has a fault on it but still can achieve 65Mbps down and 40up regardless

I'm on talk talk's 40down 2up cheap plan

Ookla speed test is a load of rubbish on my Fibre
It is reporting 10Mbps down. I won't be using that to test. Steam download is stable at 4.6 MBytes ps
That's probably the cap from talk talk

Speedtest is very server dependent and often your closest (default selection) server is NOT the fastest.

I like to use anything from Vodafone, particularly out of Newbury. It maxes my connection.

I can't seem to get those stats without downloading something extra and installing it, is that correct?

So my Infinity 2 finally got installed, despite all our problems (see here http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=26829852&postcount=12305).
At 400m to cabinet we got 42 down and 8 up. At first the engineer struggled to get 30 down. He had to call into the office and then make several trips to the cabinet. Took him over two hours and he managed to bring it up to 42 saying it was the best we could get.
I am disappointed in this because our line is VERY good. The local wiring and the cabinet are new and high quality - several engineers have pointed this out and I also know someone local from the town council who has been involved inspecting lines around the town.
A bit more downstream would be nice, but the upstream is particularly glaring.

Once DLM has run it's course I will be contacting BT again and asking for a booster engineer or someone to manually adjust my IP profile and see how it goes as this one seems quite conservative.

Anyone else done either method to increase speed, let me know how it went!

mattus i expect your line is interleaved otherwise you would connect closer to the max rate. ping time to the 2nd hop is ~5ms fastpath and 10+ms interleaved. i would talk to your isp about your line, it must be faulty :confused:

Well I caught a BT engineer next to the new cabinet the other day, he said all the power and fibers were in (he waved the fibers in my direction but couldn't tell me when it would be commissioned, apparently it's done by a different group.

HEADRAT

Well cabinet is still not live, Wholesale says end of Sept but I'm not holding my breath!

Thanks. I'm not sure interleaving is the problem though - my ping to google.co.uk is 15ms. The sync rate and max rate are the same after connection but the max then gradually increases.

Think it must be a dodgy install - have to get an engineer out when I have time. I just can't face hours on the phone to India!

What's the story with interleaving and Fibre. Should it ideally be off?

After a few disconnects(which I can only assume is the DLM testing the connection), I've dropped from 42.5 to 41.5, but my upstream has increased a few hundred kb.
