BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Anyone have an estimated speed that I'm likely to achieve being 1000 meters from the newly installed FTTC cabinet ?.

I am in the same boat, i have a slow ADSL connection in rural Oxfordshire with a FTTC cab in the ground awaiting activation. I will be happy with anything better really :p

Got Infinity yesterday :D
... 6.5Mbps downstream

On ADSL we got about 3.5Mbps downstream from an attenuation of roughly 50dB. Attenuation on Infinity is 29dB (line) / 22dB (signal), but getting 6.5Mb down and the same crappy 1Mb up!

Line attenuation: 0.0 / 29.2
Signal attenuation: 0.0 / 22.8
Data rate: 1156 / 6558
Maximum data rate: 1164 / 6477
Noise margin: 6.5 / 6.1

Surely something is badly wrong here?

I live in a village near Driffield and currently with KC. On the Openreach website it now says my local BT exchange will have fibre from September 2014! I am happy to move to BT from KC and the BT roadside cabinet is just round the corner from me about 50 yards away. The main exchange is about 3 miles away in the next village. Is the speed judged from the roadside cabinet or the exchange? It also says FTTC and FTTP will be available which surprised me, what is the criteria for FTTP as we have a pole on my street and I cannot see them putting a trench down our street?

Noticed a lot of the green boxes in the street have had recent work done to them. Checked Samknows and was surprised to see that FTTC is coming. Didn't think it'd ever come here as it's only a few thousand residents in some villages.

This line gets about 3Mbps max for ADSL, about 3KM from the exchange. What would be a realistic downstream for a VDSL connection?

My address seems close enough to get fttp
I dunno what makes you able to get fttp

I am not sure what you mean by seems close enough. To get FTTP you need BT to have laid FTTP (:p). FTTP is currently extremely rare, coverage of FTTP is very small indeed.

yeah its never going to happen basically. I think if a bunch of people in the local area petitioned BT they might do something, but its likely not going to happen if you just wait. I'm resigned to having a 20MB connection for along time.
