AKG K7XX - Massdrop

how big is the difference between these and the Q701?

is it HUGE or slight? would it be worth the hassle and cost of upgrading? I only use the Q701's for gaming, HD600 for music.

did you auction your Q701's?

I wouldn't say the difference is huge but there is a difference. Soundstage is still as wide as ever but it's got a bit more detail in the highs and mids with a bit of "pop" to make details stand out more. There's less bass of course and I'd hazard to say the bass is Sennheiser levels of neutral - Not a bad thing but I have yet to bass port mod them, I might do in time.

Q701s sold on AV forums btw.

Damn! I need to keep my eyes out there. Would've snapped these off you!

can anyone point me to a diy cable guide which includes installing a boom mic for these cans?

It needs to look sexy though so now clip on stuff please

Finally arrived! Got stung for customs charge but only £33 so not too bad. First impressions are that they are ridiculously comfortable, looking forward to testing them out fully.

Royal mail delivered a card which had the cost in it. You can pay online and they will deliver or pick it up from your local post office.

Gotta wonder how massdrop exist outside of these special/limited edition products. From what I can see their pricing (inc shipping and import tax/handling) makes the products almost the same, or in some cases more than the price of buying from inside the UK. I can't see why anyone would buy from massdrop and wait a month for delivery and have all of the non-return issues, unless there was a significant price saving or as above the ability to get your hands on a limited edition product?

it is a US site.

therefore shipping and customs makes it expensive for UK buyers.

they do however have some very good deals for UK buyers, mrk for example bought into the q701 drop after i posted about it on here and he got Q701's for around £95 (no customs were charged) delivered to his home within a month iirc. the price at the time in the uk was £200 for white and £300 for lime. therefore HUGE savings were had, he liked them so much he sold headphones costing £150+ (x1's) so upgraded his headphones and made money in the process that's how good a deal it was.

i personally buy from massdrop and get stuff delivered to a mailbox in america. i then get a relative who lives nearby to pick them up. i either then collect whilst on holiday or get them to bring them over when they visit. if i really want them quick, i get them to post it. you can still make savings that way as some products in america are half the price they are here, I just bought the top of the range bluetooth parrot kit from america and saved like £70 on that 1 product alone.

savings can easily be had on certain products, on others it works out the same or slightly cheaper. i always shop around and massdrop is just one of the sites i check. all it takes is 2 seconds to google a product name or model number and your instantly told the cheapest price available in the uk/usa online.

Yup live long the Q701 (though now replaced by the K7XX :p) - Won't ever find a deal like that again for sure.

Understand the point about Massdrop being expensive when you factor in VAT etc. In this case though they are the only ones who have the product so the situation is a little different. I still feel like I got a bargain on my 7xx's even with the added VAT :-)

I got some soundmagic hp200's from massdrop that worked out about 120 quid which is loads cheaper than i could find them in the uk and they are better than anything else i'd tried in the same price bracket here

The more I listen to them the more I like them. Had the same feeling of with the Q701 but that was after the bass port mod. The K7XX have not been modded and will not be modded. I think the balance and soundstage is just right for this class of headphone. No part of the entire range feels too much or too little.

Any one wanting a pair should look on a auction site & type "AKG K702 limited edition"... £199 with a offer available ! Ps it's not me that's selling them.

Dubious photos, doesn't show the picture of the #number although states it in the ad itself, ad itself shows the PR photos from Massdrop. Why not just show actual photos of the ones for sale and why advertise it as the K702?
