AKG K7XX - Massdrop

Can anyone confirm if you can change the delivery address on massdrop orders? Or in fact on any website? I've never had to before to know myself. The guy doing the forwarding service may not be living at home for the duration of it all and is offering an alternative address but he won't have that for a few days. Wanting to place an order before the offer ends but if I placed it now they won't get delivered till early March according to massdrop themselves which means I'd need them posted to the second address when this is given to me.

Got a pair sorted via the guy doing the forwarding service. Had a quick read of the UK import laws but still not sure if I'm gonna be expected to pay a duty fee on them or not based on the product, value and method of postage.

How easy are these headphones to drive?

I've played them straight out of my ipod classic. I found they retain a bit of fullness and still have a bit of a nice tone. They sound better amped though. Even my cheap Fiio E11k makes them sing nicely, I didn't find them terribly difficult to drive personally.

Good to know. I still haven't yet got a dac and amp sorted so powering my Q701s and DT770's through a FiiO E07K which struggles a bit:p

Are they the sort that would sound better with a tube amp? I read the Q701s do, but I'll probably sell them on to fund these.

Well this sucks, the Van Damme cable has started playing up at the termination, a little wiggle on the lead results in crackles in the sound :(

I may message the seller see if they will send me a new one...

I have now bass port modded mine. I decided to do it after listening to music and watching some videos through my speakers and marvelling at the bass depth then putting the headphones on and the depth wasn't quite as deep. I missed that from the Q701 bass port modded.

Findings?
Soundstage remains epic, detail remains epic, the bass punch is right back how I like it and liken it to the Q7012 bass port modded but with the advantage of the K7XX detail and soundstage.

These sound a lot better than the Q701 did with the Annie memory foam earpads + bass port mod.

So for anyone considering doing the mod, those are my findings, you decide whether to do it or not for your preferences :p

For me these are now the ultimate VFM vs SQ headphone. Epic detail, epic soundstage, epic bass quality. The X2 was deep but the soundstage doesn't compare to this.

Ebay van damn cables seem to have a bad rep atm you're not the first person to mention this of late.

Back on Massdrop....

Good for those that missed out the last time. Don't think Massdrop's stance has changed on posting outside the USA though.

Shouldn't be too long till I receive mine :)

edit: missed the link that was posted above about the UK shipping.

Mine have been delivered to the senders house. Probably going to be at least another week before I get them though. Asked him to test them for a known rattle issue before posting them to me and he'll have loads of other people's headsets to test and post.

Mine were finally delivered today, after ordering them in November from the second batch, having them shipped to Minden Nevada by DHL, then having them imported and shipped to my door.

They look lovely, don't suffer from the buzz issue that some people have reported, they are also incredibly comfortable, but I am not a massive fan of how they sound, I prefer the warmth of my Fidelio X1's.

They might find their way onto the MM for what I paid... (initial purchase cost + shipping & import fees) :(

Still have the protective plastic attached and everything...

I had the X1 and didn't like the sound signature - does the K7XX have more pronounced mids? Which has sharper treble?

I'm no expert at describing sound signatures, but I'd say the K7XX does have sharper treble. The X1 sounds far "duller" in comparison, but I like it a-lot, it is a comforting sound.

mrk has owned both, he can probably help more than I can. They are back in the box now, I only used them for 2 hours.

Will be putting them on the MM in a tick.
