The official Philips BDM4065UC thread

For those interested, the settings and profile I ended up with after calibrating are:

1)
Economy Preset
Brightness 50
Contrast 50
Gamma 2.2
Red 100
Green 95
Blue 83

2)
Off preset -for daytime
Only differences are:
blue 82
Brightness 100

Using file below - though not sure if this is the right file to attach, so if you do want to try it and have problems let me know.

I know my brightness settings are higher than badass's, but I just found anything less too dim for me.

Thanks for the Info

I am going to order one of these at the end of January (that 6 week wait between paydays is to long to ignore this month)

Will I be fine with 970 sli's and a 2500k @4.4ghz to push this?

Also does it include a displayport cable or will I need to buy one for 4k?

Thanks in advance guys

Another of the more general setup

I take it back! That actually looks fine the way you have it setup. Did you remove the stand and replace it with some kind of VESA mount/stand as I notice your monitor is nearly sitting flush with the desk?

That would probably help things as the main issue size wise isn't so much the width of the monitor but the height. The reviews I've read also state that given it's 40" size windows scaling isn't really an issue since even at 100% text is still readable.

The 4k 40" is the same scaling on window as 27" 1440p or 34" 3440x1440 . they all are similar ppi thats why 40" 4k is just about the right size.

One of these

PLaced slightly off center as that allows it to go further back, with the mechanism bending to the side.

Bit harsh calling him out on that being a load of rubbish.

If 40 inch is too big for his desk, then it is, and smaller 3K screens will possibly have scaling issues.

I have a large desk, and that's the only reason this screen is ok. Most people won't have that space.

Was being tounge in cheek really, I personally believe that there's not a desk around that couldn't accomodate this, with a bit of squeezing in etc. Basically end result is a feeling of money well spent regardless of desk/concerns.
Anyway wasn't trying to be offensive :)

Comes with displayport cable.
Pushing it a bit with 970 in SLI at 4k...but then so is anything really.
I got 3 x 980s in tri-sli and Assassins creed still runs like a dog on anything except low, The Witcher 2 can't be played with Uber sampling smoothly at 4k still....

(everything else is fine mind)

Thanks for this, Well I took the plunge and decided to treat myself ,sooner or later cards will appear that can crack 4k (maybe DX12 will help) and I like the idea of using 21:9 as well which should make it less stressful on the cards (I guess)

I am using a Hazro 27 from here now and even thought that has been a great screen I just wanted a little more legroom lol,

how much do you guys reckon a hazro glassfronted HZ27WC is worth ?

Jimmy. Did you play on Neverwinter Nights 2 servers?

You have the same name as someone who did, plus you have the same monitor model as me too. The Hazro. Weird coincidence. The glass front of my Hazro fell off, but it works well otherwise.

It was around £350 new wasn't it? They are still good monitors now, and could be worth a fair bit.

I have been hovering over the purchase button on this monitor. Unfortunately the long wait time for delivery and the lack of freensync capability is putting me off this.

It's probably a good thing they are out of stock :)

On assasins creed; ive found that the only setting that makes any difference is AA, running ultra with fxaa I get the same frame rate as running low, within single digits mostly (tri sli also)

Nah I am almost ashamed to say I never played neverwinter nights.

I think I will stick the Hazro on the MM here and see what happens.

Luckily I had a ton of vouchers to bring the price of the Phillips down a bit :D

Would you really need AA as such a high res?

I am mostly a console gamer even though I seem to be constantly upgrading my PC so forgive my ignorance if its a dopey question

I'm going crazy here.

I wrote a letter to Santa Clause requesting one of these on the 11th December and it was supposed to be shipped direct from Philips.

Still not arrived and they're closed till the 5th :(

Any ideas on when Overclockers are getting these back in stock? Status says overdue on the website. Status on my order says in warehouse queue...

When I checked availability here earlier it said due 27/01/2015. I think they changed it back to overdue so people would keep purchasing rather than pay then wait a month.

I would anticipate you have to wait until the end of this month.

Thanks mate, will give that a shot. Couldn't believe how bad the performance was to release that in that state...that discussions been done to death and OT but cheers for the tip :)

Sorry to burst the bubble (and slice a knife throught tripe journalists talk to the contrary) but AA is very much a noticable improvement at 4K, certainly not really needed on smooth scenes but you chuck in a sharp edge or two and it still stands out like a sore thumb.

Although it's true that no hard edges, no AA needed or the benefit is quite subtle to be literally honest and not talk like an exaggerating fool as journalists tend to :p

Is there any reason I would buy this Philips as opposed to a 4K tv (to use as a monitor) like a Panasonic AX630?

I know the Philips has a display port connection, but the Panasonic has hdmi 2 and will work with my GTX970, so there's no issue from that perspective.

Does the Philips do anything more "monitory" which the Panasonic (or any of the other UHD tv's) wouldn't do?

Don't know if I can be bothered to wait for the Philips to come back into stock.

Thanks
