Not sure if anyone seen my last comment, with the F450 or F550 kit, specifically to soldering, is anyone using a flux pen before they solder? or is it not really needed.

Hi all, i'm looking for a bit of advice on my first quadcopter.....
I would like one with a camera, that is good enough quality to take still images from. As its my first quadcopter, i dont want to be spending silly money at the moment, but all i can see is the Hubsan x4's for about £50, then a massive jump up to the really expensive kit.
Is there anything in the middle? around £100-£150 that would offer an improvement over the x4?
I did consider the "baby beast" when I ordered mine, mostly because I liked the fact they were bright green!
I went for DYS 1806 in the end just because they were a bit cheaper and seemed to be well recommended
It's not strictly necessary but it does make things easier. I always use a little dab of flux on everything before I solder.
You could probably get away without it, but I think its just good soldering practice really. Ensures you have the cleanest point possible for a good solder connection.
I have been using a flux pen and water soluble flux while building my F450.
Thanks, do you think a £2 jobby pen will do the job? I have seen some which are like £15?
Also, do you think the solder I am using will do the job? it cost £1 and is 17gr 60%tin and 40%lead stuff. Apparently multicore
Both should be fine. 17gr might be a little chunky for fine work.
It will be if you're soldering wires. Pins on a board might need something thinner. It doesn't really matter too much tbh. As long as you're not using plumbers solder![]()
for what it's worth - i didn't use any flux on my Q450 and it's fine - ok, not the neatest soldering job as it was my first time in years soldering but it's all fine
I have that B&Q flux and that will be fine. Its water soluble as well, so you can just wipe if off if required.
That looks a ton of fun, can I ask what size battery's you guys use and flight times ?
A bit of flying from the weekend, I was not coping with the high winds too well and had to borrow an FPV screen as mine died!
I'm the one doing most of the crashing
