New game / New Graphics card.

It works !!

It was the old monitor all along. I plugged the new graphics card into my LG HD TV with the HDMI cable and it worked.

I had to faff about with the drivers a little but it's up and running perfectly.

So, I now need to buy:

1. Power Supply.

2. 24" monitor to suit.

What's the current best buy power supply for less than £50 and can you recommend a 24" monitor.

You would had done that 8 days ago then you would not wasted time burned £11 to RMA card for nothing. :p

Like you said you was way out of date with hardware knowledge.

Whoa wait a min now you just ask for new PSU??? You just bought PCIE power adapter and molex cable! Why would you wasted it? But your old PSU just worked fine with your new GPU, it got plenty of power with 44A +12V which is 4A more than EVGA 500W's 40A.

I suggest you to download and run 3DMark benchmark at full load first thing to see if your old PSU can withstand the stress, if it can withstand stress then you don't really need to buy new PSU yet as long until your old PSU failed. If PSU struggled with stress then you will know the sign when PC will shutdown unexpected during benchmark then you definitely need to get new PSU. Same thing happened to my idiot mate who was way out of date with hardware knowledge rushed to buy new PC with Athlon 64 X2 6000+ on ebay and had it delivered to played GTA IV without asked me for advice, he ran it with generic 450W PSU caused PC shutdown 5 mins during GTA IV game then he asked me to came over to checked and tested it out then told him he really need new PSU because the new 450W PSU cant handle stress with just 15A +12V accorded to PSU label which is too low. I recommended him a Antec 550W PSU with triple +12V rails of 54A then after he received delivery and plugged new PSU in, ran GTA IV game great all day without PC shutdown.

Iv'e not adjusted my card settings at all as I'm not sure what to do. Again I'm a bit of a noob at this 3D card game. I just tend to install them and play Medal of Honor Allied Assault hehe.

This may turn into a thread for 'Getting the most out of your graphics card'.

Best leave Catalyst driver settings to default and turn up graphics settings in games instead.

So after ran 3DMark showed your old PSU withstand the stress just fine, just enjoy play Alien Isolation on HDTV while wait for new LED monitor, you really not need to buy new PSU. :)
 
This one looks the part but no reviews. Do any of you guys and gals have one, a second opinion would be nice.

Running a 3Dmark stress test on your Gpu does not mean your Psu is up to scratch. That's a very short sighted and naive opinion. Having a quality Psu also gives you piece of mind. What if your current unit suddenly goes pop or you get a power surge, etc, does your Psu have any built in protection(see quote above). If not, what's to say it wont take some of your components with it. It may last you a while longer and it may not. But, ultimately the choice is yours. We have offered you advice and opinions regarding the Psu, but that's all we can do. But good luck.

I had already made a decision to buy a new power supply. If for no other reason than aesthetics. The inside of my PC now looks like a plate of Spaghetti.

I'll go for the last one posted. Unless anyone see's another one more suitable.

He already has quality PSU accorded to Artic 700W product spec, it has build in protection functions.

Well years ago I was sick and tired of my old Antec Truepower 2.0 PSU with spaghetti cables all over, it was messy then I had enough of it and decided to bought Corsair AX850 full modular PSU and never look back. Absolutely love plugged in fewer power cables. :)

I must be missing something here.

I received my new Iiyama 24" monitor today and the picture looks like crap.

I can only run it in 1440x900, if I run it in any higher resolution there's a black band all the way around the screen.

Iv'e faffed with the general settings and the edges of the text is overly fuzzy, the little HD TV I had it running on for the last few days produced an amazing picture, really crisp and clean, as you'd expect from a HD screen.

The Iiyama however, awful in comparison and it's just cost me £130.

Even my old and now redundant 19" VGA Hiyundai looked better than this.

I just played Call of Duty World at War and it looks like Doom (Well maybe not exactly like it).

Surely, I'm missing something.
 
Hey man, it might be to do with scaling. I had the exact same thing when I got my AMD R9 270X card. Right click the desktop and select Catalyst Control Centre, and then go to the options I've highlighted. For me I need to set the slider all the way to the right for it to fill the screen at my native resolution.

EDIT: Not sure if it was clear but set the native resolution first - yours is 1920x1080 going by the product page

That AMD II X3 435 is really going to hamper your performance sadly. :( I remember my 560Ti being badly bottlenecked by my old Q6600. Glad you got it working however.
