Ah that's done the trick, now it's showing a steady 525 mb/s.

Had a reply from Samsung this morning

I just checked the performance, but at the moment the performances you get are pretty normal. If they drop down to 200mB/s or lower please contact us again and we will double check. Anyway we are testing here the issue regarding the performances on the 840 EVO, so we are monitoring and testing to find the best solution.

So a performance drop from 500 to 300-400 is "normal". There should be zero loss of performance!

I can smell legal proceedings in the air if that is their stance.

We could, but why should we ?

If we'd bought any other SSD we wouldn't have to do that.

its not meant to be ran on a weekly basis and why should you have to keep running the tool to get the full speed out of the SSD?

I had a similar reply after my first contact with them.

I have since sent a benchmark showing dips below 150MB/s.

My EVO continues to show slowly worsening performance.

mine's also beginning to wane again,hav'nt touched it since the restoration software came out and i ran it

time to jump ship to a crucial mx100,it will be far quicker than waiting for Samsung to pull their finger out their ass

(EDIT: my Samsung 840 pro 256gb ssd is still performing like new and its months older than this evo,just goes to show)

don't know,the 850's are too new atm,time will tell

if it is a fw problem then why cant or haven't they fixed it yet?

Raid 0 512GB 850 Evo's had them running since 6th jan.

They took a couple of months to come up with the previous update (that seems to have failed).

We're still waiting for some official announcement from Samsung on the matter.

I suppose if they keep us waiting a couple of years, all the 840 EVOs will be out of warranty.

This issue isn't specifically caused by TLC NAND as such, it's characteristics don't help but these can be neutralised by using a larger process node which is what the 850 EVO uses. Read a review of a 840 and 850 EVO to understand the differences between the NAND used and you'll see why the 850 EVO is unlikely to be effected, despite it also using TLC NAND.

That said, untill time has passed we won't know for sure. I'd have no problem buying one for myself but despite being confident they are not effected I wouldn't feel comfortable recommend one just yet. Their probably a safe bet but don't listen to me.

Dervious, you have a strong case there, will be interesting to see their response now.
