***Intel i7 4790K Owners thread***

Installed mine this evening, upgrading from an [email protected].

Not had a chance to tinker yet, but at stock it's not a massive improvement over the overclocked FX. Around 500 more 3DMarks (extreme test). Tomb Raider bench (as per settings in bench thread on here) actually a little worse.

Tomorrow I should get a chance to play around with settings and unleash the beast.

Decent chip.

Opening gambit of 4.7 @ 1.225 passes Intel Burn Test with temps in 80s. I'll work on a decent offset OC for day to day usage over the weekend.
 
Nice, i wouldnt be testing with IBT though m8 for stability. People say it overheats haswells running them a lot hotter than real use can.

I was told to use real bench instead.

Pretty good mate, nice low vcore and temps are quite good for IBT. But as mentioned, real bench is more than enough for theese chips.
 
Settled on 4.7 with +0.1 offset (1.1 base volts) and 1:1 uncore. Can probably get the offset down a little.

These chips do run rather warm. My FX8320 I'd keep below 50 at 4.5Ghz, whilst Haswell gladly goes up to 80+, even with my Fractal S36.

Finding Realbench to be very good, so thanks for that.

Yeah Haswell is def hot, keeping it cool in Mini-ITX is a challenge. The performance is there though.

You sticking with your 4790K through Skylake?
 
I'd originally planned to stick with the FX through to Skylake, but now I've made the jump to Haswell I'll probably stick it out to Cannonlake / Zen.

I currently have 32GB memory, as my computer doubles up as an ESXi lab, which would cost a small fortune to upgrade to DDR4.

Yeah, and there is a good chance you could get random one that does 4.8 at 1.29v odd like mine or not far off that.

Yeah but 5ghz sounds a lot better than 4.xx :)

My chip scales about hte same as yours, bout 1.29 for 4.8, 1.35 for 4.9 and about 1.42 for 5 ghz, but im guessing theirs are running a hell of a lot lower voltage than that.

Well, 5G w/o any mods and on "air" with the voltage between 1.275-1.325v. That's what it is!;)

Delided and under custom water loop I believe to get a minimum 5.1G but hoping for 5.2G stable:p

This processor has made the world of difference to GTAV over my FX. Which is great, as it was GTAV that made me think it was probably about time to retire the FX8320.

That's a lot of money to pay for a 4790k, especially considering Skylake will be out soon, rendering this CPU obsolete.
