It'll hardly make it obsolete, the performance improvements from Haswell > Skylake are not that exceptional.
Skylake isn't released yet, we have no official performance numbers, only questionable leaks.
What we do know is that it's going to have at least 10% more IPC than Haswell. We know this since Broadwell is a 5.5% IPC increase over Haswell, and Skylake is bound to be at least 5% more than Broadwell.
We also know that the PCH, Z170, is greatly improved over Z97, as it features a PCI-E v3 link from CPU to PCH (via DMI 3.0), which means we'll have much more speed/lanes available from the PCH for ultra fast PCI-E SSD's.
Also I meant 'obsolete' by being end of life, and having an outdated chipset. 4790K will of course be a very good CPU for many years to come, though like I said, paying £460 for a 4790k, 3 months away from Skylake is not a wise decision imo.
