I ripped my mudguard of my carbon bike! :) decided to ride my SS to work on rainy days.. only problem is fridays when the laptop is in the back, then I need my mudguard! don't want to kill 2k worth of work laptop due to rain :o
 
was thinking I might take my mudguards off for the Saturday ride so I have an excuse to hang off the back :p
 
I think I'm going to have to step it up a notch and get some kind of mud-funneling attachment for my rear wheel so I can really soak people. Spray wars :p
 
Back on the bike today after 5 weeks off.

Seriously struggled to find motivation after hating every second of this years Etape Caledonia at beginning of May(****ing rain, wind, cramps, sick etc during the ride)

Anyway - viral flu straight after Etape for 10 days put pay to most things for a while. New job, also taking up time.

BAck out today for an hour and good god, i enjoyed it again. Glad to find my mojo again - but I see the weather ain't changed from 5 weeks ago, still very windy and cold!!!

Whyyyy??? Lol, can't think of anything more boring than riding that stretch of road for 11+ hours. It's a nice wide road but loads of stupid peds and traffic... I've seen them triple parked at the sides too! :rolleyes:

Huge headwinds here too, temperatures have dropped a few degrees from other mornings due to the windchill. Felt cool but not cold once I'd put some efforts in. A longer ride than my commute I'd have wanted arm warmers and long fingers on.

spray wars, lol.. had that with a guy not too long ago! sprayed me 3 times and I lifted up my mudguard at the lights(still kept my bum dry but the spray went high up) so I had to.. over take him a few times.. just to make sure his face was full of crud!
 
Couple of friends have done that a few times, say it is a good event, and wasn't as hard as it looks once you get over the mountains at the beginning.

I done that etape also, it was one of the worst experiences of my life and I hated every second of it from getting out of bed to trying to get dry and warm after crossing the line. Not surprised at all that you got ill after enduring that :(

It was the first time in my 38 years that I've ever had "proper" flu - I was in bed for 5 full days unable to move from there etc. Absolutely love the route of the Etape but 5 hours of pouring rain, soaking clothes, wind etc etc took it's toll on me obviously!!

That sounds a bit like the Tour de Yorkshire sportive. If you'd been off in the early groups from 6.30am it was chucking it down. Thankfully I didn't go off till 9.30am so only got around an hour of getting soaked.

Man :( Sorry to hear it whacked you so badly, I have had the proper flu once in my life and as you mention, it truly is horrible and you are bed ridden. a lot of people have never experienced that and call a cold "the flu" but there is no mistaking it if it hits you hard!

I thought the route was poor. Not enough climbing for my liking. The KOM was pathetic, they should have made the end point for the KOM a lot further up the mountain I thought.
 
My Rose bike has just been dispatched.... If only it arrives from the charity bikeride I'm doing on Saturday eh... (yeah I know that's not happening...)

Bianchi back in the day produced some really lovely things, but also some horrible gaspipe chod.

Of course "old steel" is now prized whether it's gaspipe or Reynolds 753

Yeah, there are some old frames where I don't recognise the names of the steels used and have to wonder what they really are. When I've got more money than sense I'll make sure to do my research and get something with the right Reynolds stickers on it. That or a decent Columbus Peugeot would be nice.
