Windows 10

This for me is the same as all the builds in that I cannot upgrade from Win 8.1 on my Asus laptop. It starts to install ok but then errors and goes back to 8.1. I can install fresh OK but I want to upgrade to get the full upgrade on the 29th...

Anyone else had issues upgrading ?

The big question is will we get another free upgrade after Win10 lifetime?

Time will tell I guess.

i can't see that happening tbh.

the way i see it is u get 2 or 4 years worth of upgrades to new builds etc then you'll have to buy a new license or maybe something like buying an add-on to extends the time period of upgrades to new builds etc.

but this is just a guess... we just have to wait and see

Well guess Windows 10 wont hit RTM as it missed deadline today. New RTM deadline is set on Wed 15 July next week.

Build 10224 is on buildfeed.net and ms-vnext.net today. It seemed Windows 10 RTM roadmap pic below I found on mydigitallife forum a day ago turned out accurate.

Build 10240 should be already compiled today and we should see build 10400 hit RTM before or on 15 July.

I have finally managed to get it to update using a USB stick and the 10166 build. Must say I really like this.

Quick question probably been asked a million times so apologies. As I upgraded from Win 8.1 to Win 10 will I get the full release on or around the 29th without needing to re-install 8.1 again first ?

Cheers

From that site "Microsoft will determine the device lifetime -- and thus the support stretch -- by "customer type"

This is going to get nasty in a year or so. In my opinion that is

Nowhere in that powerpoint the guy linked to did it say that MS would determine the device life, that article is pure click bait.
MS are saying that different types of customers keep their devices for different periods of time typically 2-4 years, 2 years for say a phone or tablet and perhaps 4 years for a desktop pc.

Presumably from a non MS iso? I am not aware of the availability of Microsoft Iso for this build yet. Mine wont as yet update via windows update. Yet others on here have updated via windows update - go figure?

You said you used a USB stick, so you downloaded the ISO, did you make a bootable USB or did you copy the ISO to the USB?

If you booted from the USB and did a upgrade then you will be able to convert to final build from the preview build. / If you booted from USB and did a custom/clean install then no one knows officially.

Or

If you clicked the .exe from the USB from within Windows then yes.

I downloaded it from the windows site ? Maybe it's not the latest I will need to check again sure it said it was 10166....

I downloaded the ISO and just copied it to a USB stick and then opened it within windows to install. It was an upgrade I did.....

If this info is indeed correct, I think I will stick with 10162 for now, and wait until the 15th July to see what happens then.

My preference is to install from an official ISO download from scratch onto a 'clean' drive, in a spare laptop, and to check it out from there.

If what I had read was correct, and bearing where they are at the moment, then 10400 looks like quite a long way away, but nevertheless I will stick with that one for now, I think!

10400 seems to be the build number to aim at it seems
