more useful than a grenade or a super?

i've seen 4-6 people killed by a single super or even a single grenade but never by even multiple melees in a row

You may only get a few supers per round,

flame shield can be easily more useful than a grenade since its a defensive perk rather than aggressive.

It can save you in a critical fight when you would otherwise die.

had 6 in one round, it depends on you stacking your orbs with team mates as well though, if your on with randoms then thats not always the case.

Depends how you want to play the game. Honestly since ToO came out people behave like it's suddenly a pro sport.

You don't NEED to run 100% int, Thorn, a dirty long-range shotgun and a prox launcher to compete in pvp.

Use whatever suits your playstyle. I'm performing better with low-impact pulse rifles than with Hawkmoon.....all these new 'pro' trials players will tell you low-impact pulses are useless...... they're not, they just have like a <1/10 sec longer TTK....not a significant differentiator given all the other variables involved.

In fact, I might run my 100% DIS, 100% STR, 0% INT + claws of ahamkara build next trials for a laugh, see how it goes. OHK melees all day :)

Trials isn't a "pro sport" but it is all about getting an edge of your competitors. Obviously player skill is important but assuming equal skill then 1/10th of a second isn't much but it could be the difference between you winning a round because it you're 3v2 or loosing as you're 2v3. The same applies to supers, grenades and melee's - if you can get them up before your enemy then you have an advantage. Personally, from my limited experience, I do prefer INT + DIS as teams generally stick together so to get a melee you are almost certaintly going to get shot in the back by the other 2.

I don't think it has suddently become a thing, people have been discussing builds since day 1. It is simply that since ToO more people are talking about it. For normal PvP though I agree that it is more forgiving in what weapons and armour so you should play with whatever you want and play to your strengths.

Int + Dis is best, I find Dis more useful then Int too, super have higher risk but also higher reward, but tagging a group with a good nade means I'm almost certain I've won that round.

It's just a general comment on the obsession with 'meta' that has sprung up since trials, it's a load of nonsense really.

In Destiny PvP you're typically dealing with client that are out of sync by .5 to 1 second on average I would guess, frequently more when you've got red-bars around. These tiny little hundredths of a second here and there on stat spreadsheets are statistically insignificant compared to all the other variables involved.

I must admit this constant use of the word "meta" to describe peoples best loadouts is somewhat funny. Don't see it used anywhere else and its suddenly become the buzz word !

The other thing that seems to escape people is the difference in cooldown difference between say 80 % INT and 100 % INT.

Its about 19 seconds difference in your cooldown. Nothing really.

Does it only effect charge or does it effect how much more you get pre kill. And even 19 seconds is a bonus, if I can get it before anyone else without a penalty then its another advantage I have, it could also mean I can get an extra super or 2 which means up to 10 extra kills.

You get more super energy per kill with higher int yep.

Depends on build really. If I'm running sunsinger I'm not too bothered about INT as it's a super you tend to hang on to for a bit anyway, and I'd rather have the flame shield and firebolt cooldown quicker.

On a side note, I didn't think STR was supposed to affect melee damage....but I did the daily earlier with a 100% sunsinger build and I OHK melee *everything*, including hobgoblins. Normally they take a couple of hits or a punch in their glowy liquid squishy parts. Imagining things?

its only cooldown.

I think Str effecting melee makes it far more useful, so people would need X str before certain melee's can even 1 OHK like back stab needs 100str before it does enough to kill max armour builds or something. Could make the game more interesting.

On the subject of changes to make the game more interesting. As well as this mayhem crucible mode with fast super charge, I'd love a tank mode with doubled HP, would totally change the dynamics of pvp.

I think health should increase across the board, original destiny was meant to be a high TTK game, but its dropped with new games and higher damage and so on, while armour has never increased.

I've played games like that before where everybody needs huge ammounts of bullets to die and its not fun. And this is speaking as somebody who is fine with normal mode in COD / BF and doesn't insist on hardcore.

I don't think we need a huge increase, but 2 burst from a PR is a bit to quick, same with 2 thorn shots and so on. I think if we had a baseline of 3 hit kills for everything then it would help improve the game mode. I played a lot of HC and its a different beast, you die in 1 shot from anything, you have no perks, no killstreaks and so on, something like that would actual be awesome in destiny, where you just have your skill tree and your weapon, no supers, not bonus from armours, no bonus from weapons.

I would also like something like that. Back in the days of Halo I loved playing SWAT and have loved the HC modes on CoD's. However, you only ever had to look at the player number for these sort of modes to see that they aren't massively popular so probably wont be added.
