BMW and M Power Owners

The wait for my car is killing me, hoping to get the build order number out of my dealer so I can badger BMW CS every day rather than him (feel sorry for the guy though I haven't contacted him for a whole week) :p

What have you ordered?
I know the feeling - i'm 4 months in with another 3 months left to go :/

Need a new pair of front tyres on my E46 328. It has a full set of Michelin Primacy HP on 205 55 16 at the moment. Fancied going for the Pilot Sport 3 but was put off by reports of mismatched axles causing severe handling problems on the E46 so have gone for the Primacy HP again. Cheap tyre place alignment as well, hopefully that stops the wheel moving to the left without any input!

Has anyone had any experience upgrading or modifying the 323/325/328/330i exhaust system? Apparently replacing the resonator (secondary muffler) with a straight pipe can make a nice change to the tone without being much louder.

I'm pleased the very cheap purchase and now 145k beamer passed its MOT with no advisories. Another year left in it perhaps.

I was toying with the idea of a resonator delete on my 330i - it gives the car a high end rasp - similar to the E46 M3, but I'd read online it's a bit droney when at motorway speeds.

Interested to hear how you get on :)

The wait depends where you order the car from and the number they have requested. Some people already have their cars, despite me ordering it 30 days before them. My build date is w/c 5th October having ordered it in April :(

Ouch well I would say I know your pain but I'm struggling after three weeks let alone 4 months :p. Hopefully mine is still on track for end of sep delivery, expecting an update from the dealer at some point today.

It's completely ridiculous and I do not understand why anyone is prepared to tolerate wait times of 7 months for anything this side of a custom specified supercar. Peoples blind tolerance and acceptance of such ridiculous wait times have provided VW with absolutely no incentive to bother sorting it out.

Im tolerating the wait because there is no other car like it. The cost, drive train, power, specification and load space is unique.

The closest matches are 335d/535d Touring or Audi S4 Avant but they have smaller load capacities and cost from £180+ a month more... and if I ordered one of those in July (LCI 335D and cheap 5 deals) I still wouldn't have it until October.

To be fair, I do believe its a Golf R estate isn't it? And he probably has that wait as the dealer he ordered it from didn't already have a spare one allocated to them. Sometimes these things happen. I can't imagine the Estate version of the R will be overly common (as much as I'd like one), hence the wait. I think there is a pretty long wait on the hatchback R too though.

When I bought my 530d I was surprised how quickly it came to be honest. It was built within around 2 weeks IIRC. It was really too fast for me, as I had wanted to tweak the spec slightly, but it ended up being too late.

Sorry late reply is late, posted fox poo, got suspended :o

Circa £2700 I'd say. £180 of that has been an actual fault under the bonnet (Replacing DSC pressure sensors 1 and 2). Everything else was personal preference, just to make it more "mine". I don't regret it one bit though. Still get a nice grin when climbing 4-5-6-7-8000rpm.

I suspect my hedgehog is failing though, as there are some quirks with the heater vents like I had in the last E46, but I want to rule out an AC system fault first so have booked it into the indy next week before busting my hands up replacing the spiky bugger.

Christ, and I thought I'd spent a lot. I've spent £2000 now but the car has been serviced, had 2 x oil leaks fixed, rear hand brake shoes cleaned, new interior trim parts, new interior lights, new plates, fixed the lumbar support, new OEM front indicators, wheel caps, sun visor and to top it off, some nice shiny BMW Performance Brembo brakes on the front (and new discs).

I've taken my z4 in for a bit of work after noticing a knocking sound from the front drivers side.

I've just had a call saying the car will need the following:

2x Shock absorbers
2x top struts
Anti Roll bar
Anti Roll bar bushes.

Been quoted £700 + VAT for parts and labour.

Does this sound reasonable? Seemed expensive to me.

Cheers

That is a lot of money. I'd ask to see a price break down of parts and labour costs. Is that for a main dealer or an independent?

That's a local specialist. Might go up there in a minute for a breakdown like you said. Just asked another garage to quote on the same work so will see what they come back with.

£840 is a big chunk of change!

Knocking on Z4s is frequently the control arm bushings ("lollipop" bushings on the front), have these been done recently? It's almost certainly a better first place to check.

The ARB bushings probably also worth doing, but I don't see how the front struts would be making a knocking noise unless a spring is snapped.

Yeah its been in and been inspected. At first I thought it was just those bushes, but it looks like one of the arb bushes has been bodged with some tape.

Just had another quote elsewhere for £679 but hes quoted me for dampers x2, top struts x2, arb links x2, arb rubbers x2. No quote for the actual ARB just the links?

Times like this I wish my car knowledge was a little sharper!
