Latest immigration figures.

The NHS is using foreign in nationals more and more in the NHS as they have cut back funding for training our own people and increased the costs of actually training to be a nurse.

This is not solution to any problem apart from social engineering on a grand scale started by Thatcher 20 years ago. You reap what you sow.

I am pro europe, but i am very very much against the free movement of people. Its about time the UK started to look inward more and sorting some our ongoing issues like the housing crisis and unrestricted rent controls.

We are full, immigration on such massive scales is doomed to cause nothing but trouble and strife. Send them all back packing to help sort there own country`s out. Its all about there needs never once does these articles actually state the feelings from our own side. Its all how hard there lives are yada yada yada. I dont care my humanity for them has left the building.

I'm past caring on this subject tbh.

Being against immigration = labelled a racist, daily mail reader

For immigration = brainwashed by government figures that only tell us half of the story.

The NHS has a 1/4 of its workforce thanks to immigration - the NHS would collapse without it

You see this was the strawman peddled time and again during the election, no one suggested sending anyone back home, you would suddenly reduce the NHS staff by 25% even if UKIP got into power, and under the points system if we needed more doctors and nurses. Come on in!!

I don't understand why you have quoted me , I want the skilled immigration , I don't want unskilled to an extent unless we have more demand than supply but as you have said we have that in abundance.

We need to cap or set a limit of what immigration we need , it needs to be reactive so if we are short of unskilled workers we can go and see who's applied , who's applying .

Maybe I'm too optimistic , to think that is a possibility

An entirely reasonable point of view, the US does it, the Aussies do it, but UK? "No no that ******* racist go back to your house and wrap yourself up in your Nazi flag you horrible knuckle dragging bigot":rolleyes::rolleyes:

Mmm well the polarised argument is always silly, immigration was fine for a long time until we had completely open borders over a whole continent which is really a separate issue. Most people labelled as 'anti-immigration' just want controlled immigration which 90% of countries practice and it worked fine for us for a long time.

Good news for the UK and the UK economy :)

Let's enjoy it while it lasts.

What a ridiculous comment. Suppression of wages and schools/hospitals/services stretched to breaking point. Yeah really good...

The only people who think this is good is the bosses who can hire people at min wage in the thousands.

Conservative Minister Mr Brokenshire said:

These stark figures are deeply disappointing.

While these figures underline the challenges we need to meet to reduce net migration, they should also act as a further wake-up call for the EU.

Current flows of people across Europe are on a scale we haven't seen since the end of World War Two. This is not sustainable and risks the future economic development of other EU member states.

It wasn't that long ago that George Osborne said immigration was good because it showed the economy was recovering.

so many racist daily mail readers on here....

I'm not sure that is particularly fair to say.

People having pride in their country is imo critical to the long term prosperity.

I genuinely believe people work harder when identifying with a particular culture in which they feel they fit in.

Far more so than what is the creation of a superstate with no borders and to which there is no long term cultural aspects.

Same, it's irrelevant what our opinions are anyway, they won't make any change.

Just to throw my 2 cents on the pile...

I'm not anti-immigration, frankly certain sectors in this country wouldn't have survived without having non UK people working here. The biggest problem we have in the UK is a lazy culture, if all those claiming benefits were in work then our reliance on non-UK citizens to fill in wouldn't be so great.

However I can't believe how obtuse some people on here can be thinking migration brings all positives. If there's a sudden influx of immigrants, schools, hospitals, public services, housing etc would not be able to cope, regardless of whether the majority are working or not. Schools and housing don't get built overnight.

To also bring another point up that someone above mentioned, if we have a lot of immigrants who are close to the retirement age, then they will end up consuming more resources than they've contributed with.

If it was my solution, we would filter in the immigrants who are skilled and educated, and those that are unskilled would only be allowed entry based on demand for unskilled labour. This obviously needs to be done over stages, as infrastructure etc needs to be built in order to support this.

Is your problem with the immigrants or the governments spending on schools/hospitals/services?

Err yes we do, we have a stricter immigration policy than Australia - there is no skills system for example.

The key difference is that as members of the EU we cannot prevent EU residents from moving here. This isn't an immigration policy issue. If you discount the EU effect our immigration policy is very restrictive and there are often sob stories in the media about people whose wife isn't allowed to move here to be with them etc.

This is why most of the immigration into the UK is from the EU - everyone else finds it very hard to legally immigrate to the UK. A British plumber for example could move to Australia if he has the right skills. An Australian plumber would find it very difficult if not impossible to do the reverse without some other circumstances ie family.

But don't let the facts get in the way of a good rant.

There are over 600,000 empty homes in the England and over 200,000 dwellings that are unoccupied for over 6 months - so there isn't really a shortage of homes.

I read that fact in the news too recently.

What it fails to mention however is:
a) who owns these homes - a good portion are likely privately owned, and due to the pricing of housing in this country, it's likely waiting for a buyer happy to pay the asking price.
b) the condition of the homes - i know from other news articles there's large numbers of empty homes in Liverpool and Stoke which are inhabitable, hence the council selling them off cheap for people to invest their own money to make them into a home again.
c) the location and surrounding infrastructure of these houses - it's no good having 100,000 homes in an area where there are very few jobs, schools/hospitals etc are already running at capacity.
