Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [30th October - 3rd November 2015]

Personally thought it was down to poor finishing. He did make 2 decent saves, though. We're truly ****ed if we don't win next week, and we probably won't. McClaren has won, what, 5 games this year? Including a 9% win rate during his time here. Our starting XI is nowhere near perfect, especially our midfield, but it's honestly not relegation bad.

Watch Villa get Garde in now and glide to safety. It'd honestly be great to witness just how incompetent Charnley is, the absolute nonce.

Lascalles save, Perez save, Wijnaldum free kick, Sissoko save, Mitrovic save I'm aure there's one in forgetting as well. He was brilliant.

I still think we look weak at the back and I agree we must beat Bournmouth or we are about done. With a bit of luck we could have battered Stoke like we did Norwich so still not panicking.

I'm not a big McLaren fan and I'm not sure how far he can take us but give him his due week after week we are looking much better as a team on the ball. We look comfortable and confident on the ball and really spray it around and stretch teams. Such a refreshing change from the last couple of years.

I do wonder if Cashley is gettin twitchy as that is 2 hole games with 5-10k empty seats, seems fans are starting to vote with their feet against the fat **** which is the only thing that will make him take notice.

Moyes does.

Yes that's right moyes did all the negotiation, agreed the money and terms. Do people still think clubs are run the same as the 80's

And yet despite us being desperate at Everton I don't ever recall us having a player that started no matter what form they were in. So maybe this one isn't Moyes fault. Maybe your new manager is just you know a bit ****.

Just been bandied around that Rooney has a contract clause that he must play when fit. Personally I think its rubbish, nobody would sign up a player with that clause. However he signed a new contract under Moyes.

Personally I think LVG is just hoping he comes good. Its a huge mistake.

To be honest, would you pay a player £300k/w if you didn't expect him to be the first name on your team sheet every single week.

Whoever paid him that much is a mug and whoever is dictating that he must play is also a complete mug.

Everton weren't paying anyone 300k a week and couldn't. I also never suggested that Moyes did direct negotiating, just that he was involved. A good manager should have been pointing our Rooney's decline already happening, with 2 years of turning up after summer overweight and unfit. There are guys like Ronaldo who are in near perfect shape and 100% professional. You can't predict an ACL tear which could end a career, but you can see Rooney, his attitude, his fitness and how he's been happy to be stocky and not get in top possible condition throughout his career. I'd give Rooney a literally 5% chance of being an effective over 30yr old player, I'd give Ronaldo a 99% chance.

Moyes should have been screaming at the board that Rooney has little to no chance of staying relevant and a 5 year contract and 300k is insane.

I take it you haven't seen us play this season? :D

Youre forgetting about those little things called genes...

and i'm not saying that Rooney has being a 100% professional, but Ronaldo does have a slight advantage. Slender and tall. Rooney is a stocky lad. I don't agree with the 300k a week, no. But he's still better than your making out. LVG is holding the attack back, there seems to be no runners in that side.

Not really. You ninja'd in something which doesn't agree with what I said... you just wheeled out a 'stocky lad' excuse.

No i didn't, i was editing when you replied. He is a stocky lad though, you can see he peaked far earlier than most. He was 16 when he hit the limelight. Ronaldo peaked a lot later.

Bull **** football from Stoke today, was like watching them 5 years ago. Cynical fouls, niggling kicks, dirty play, they should have had 3 more yellows and a red.

Another good performance, we battered but Butland was unreal, without him it could easily have been 6/7-0.

Disappointed we didn't win, we needed it, but another decent performance.

Butland was immense unfortunately for us, I thought Lascelles had won it for us but for Butland!

Sissoko had another good game again too but he really needs to work on his long passes because they are hit and miss, he's best at just driving forward and playing simple short passes/shooting at range.

How would I be forgetting about genes? If you don't have the genes for it that doesn't mean it's sensible to pay someone who isn't good enough nor will be good for long enough to give such a contract out. One, I have no idea what genes he has, you take a pair of twins, one works hard, the other barely tries, you can get a fat guy and a super fit guy. Rooney may have the 'better' genes for an athlete for all we know, means nothing if you won't work at it.

He isn't being professional, he is getting worse year on year, and there was exceptionally little chance he'd be effective let alone 300k a week good 5 years later considering he wasn't 300k a week good in his best season ever. How many players come back so ill equipped for the season ahead that after the season starts they get shipped to a fat camp in america to get in shape? I can think of a few (who came back out of shape) actually but one who then got a 300k a week contract.

Genes don't matter to his professionalism or the situation.

Same thing, Rooney may have peaked earlier, that doesn't mean Ronaldo wasn't working hard every day when he was younger, he was. When you end up really good has no bearing on your fitness and longevity. If Ronaldo had been brilliant at 18 instead of 28, it's the shape he was in at 18 and 28 that will allow him to continue for many more years.

Very strange sometimes how players can have such a dip in form.
Hazard last season was immense! Today:
Zero shots
Zero chances created
Zero take ons completed
Zero crosses

Rooney however I don't think it's form, I think he's genuinely done.

As Pigeon has pointed out, my point was just the fact he's on the decline, he's been battered around the PL for years. Ronaldo swanned off to Spain, the intensity is not the same over there. The conditions are not the same for each player, he's obviously on the decline, yet still an important player for UTD, which you seem to think he is'nt. I agree his wage is high, we don't need to keep talking about the 300k. Utd didn't have an option it seemed though, they desperatly wanted to hold onto him and his agent took them for a ride. Pretty simple. It's you keep talking about Moyes like he sat down with him and said this is what were going to pay you. I dont understand why it's one rule for Moyes and one rule for LVG. All i've seen over the last few weeks regarding LVG and Rooney is - it's the board that are forcing LVG to play Rooney. But when Moyes was in charge, it was all Moyes, not the board. Make up your mind mate..

Like, i'm not going to say that Rooney is in form, because he isn't, that's obvious. But the problems are not as clear cut as he's a rubbish footballer now. Form is temporary, class is permanent. To me, Rooney is in limbo over his role in the team, you saw it today with his frustration. LVG really needs to sit down with him and discuss where he wants to play, he may have already done that, i dunno. From the surface, it doesn't look like that. He's still got a huge part to play at the club but it's not being the at the top of the pitch i think.
