** POTENTIALLY THE BEST GAMING MONITORS YET!! ** Acer 34" Ultra-wides

Woops, I've been out of the loop.

What's the problem now? I don't think I've had any issues with my X34. Half the screen is black when I switch the actual monitor on, but it always lights up when I actually have any video input (so I never have Windows with a dark screen if that makes sense). Is there anything else I should be looking out for?

I think if u havent come across the Gsnyc issue u should be ok (assuming uve been gaming on it)? there is also an issue with sleep mode and the monitor not reawakening

detailed post about is on Acer forums

The sleep issue is exactly as Drojman has said anyway,a and sounds like he's experiencing it in the same way I did where it self corrects anyway

Yeah I haven't noticed any problems at all. I just tried setting the pendulum demo to low fps too (since apparently that's where it's most noticeable), and I had no issues thankfully.

As for the sleep issue, it's really a non issue (for me) I get that it shouldn't happen and it sucks that it does, but my screen is otherwise too good for me to send back.

Hopefully everyone at least has it work as well as Badass and I.

I have not encountered any of these so called "scanline" problems on my Freesync model nor sleep issues either.

The Freesync version seems to be unaffected by these issues altogether, which may point to the source of the problem being something to do with G-Sync, but this hasn't been confirmed.

some people are made of money. :)

I like to think I spend mine wisely :)

The UHD monitor was £400 and will replace my plasma TV downstairs which has been doing good service for 10 years!

Anyway back to the X34 (G-Sync) when I initially tested it using the pendulum demo it had an annoying twitch every few seconds or so. After a couple of driver updates (or just using it?) that seems to have gone completely now.

The back light issue only appears from cold for me. Sometimes it's the left side and sometimes it's just one point/column. I've not had it happen from sleep but it disappears as soon as there a signal as others have mentioned.

So whats the conclusion, wait for a new batch, still thinking of getting one when ocuk next get some in but perhaps its best to wait longer, I'd nearly talked myself out of one anyway going for a lower res at a much larger cost when I have a 4k gsync already and now this. Is it luck of the draw or all they all knackered.

They've been recalled so you should wait.

It's not been recalled twice at all. First issue with the banding was captured before stock was distributed. Sure it delayed launch a bit but was caught early. Only a very small amount of early stock was released earlier in Germany. This waking from sleep issue is still not a massive problem in my opinion. You make it sound like they are recalling everyone's screen they've sold so far. Absolutely not. They are offering the option to return it via their support teams if it causes you a problem for a fix. It's not even something that would affect everyone at all anyway

Recalled twice, once when it was RELEASED in Germany, then OCUK got stock, they was about to send it out, then it got a recall. Then we have this recall, ACER has stopped selling products to the retailers to update it. This means it is a recall, for firmware update V2, this is not even fixing the lines on the monitor at low FPS when Gsync is on.

Also managers at retailers are receiving emails about this recall

"Instead Acer has identified that a hardware level remedy is required. So currently our repair and contact centers are being brought up to speed to assist."

This shows it is a hardware level fault, this could effect longevity of the monitor.

Well part of the reason why the monitor market has so many faults in it is because reviews just skip over theses issues. If reviewers actually reviewed the product, showing the negatives then it would effect sales and will produce a fix faster, as reviews come out before the monitor.

Also you could say cherry picking is another issue. If you had the sleeping issue, it is a fault, should have been listed. Linus did not even give one fault on the monitor, many people messaged him about it.

You know how many problems this monitor has with it, these include:

Sleeping issue
Screen flickering
Not reaching 100hz
Coil whine
Colour banding (is fixed, however still happened)
Settings being reset
Colour changes when the monitor is turned off (you have to unplug it)
Lines on screen

You cannot tell me, these are "small issues" that are being over exaggerated on the monitor.

Now before I get the comment from someone, no, I am not an ASUS rep, if you look at what hardware I have, you will know I am not (I do not use any ASUS hardware inside my computer) an ASUS rep

Also there are only two 3440x1440p 34 inch Curved 21.9 100hz Gsync monitors coming out soon, the ACER Predator X34 and the ASUS PG348Q, between the two of course I would get the ASUS PG348Q

It seems ACER did not even test this monitor with the amount of issues on it. They just rushed it to be first with it. This is not the first time ACER has done this, the ACER 1440p has terrible QC as well

So overall, this monitor monitor needs fixing and should not be recommended until it happens.

Thanks for reading

Have you got the monitor? Have you used it? Have you seen any of the issues?

No.

I'm quite bored of your constant and regular anti Acer trolling. My advice to other readers is to take what you are saying with a pinch of salt. Clearly just an anti Acer poster.

Do you need the monitor, no, just look at user reviews, I have seen many issues from other users, with videos

You might want to read most forums about the issues. If there was no issue, why would ACER do a recall.

Not really "trolling" when the issues are on the monitor. You seem to be skipping over the issues again.

These problems are showing that your monitor was highly cherry picked from ACER

finally installed the fury and connected xr34, couldn't get a signal at first but reseating the fury sorted it.

not touched a setting and looks really nice out of the box, there's a little bit bleed/glow on the youtube test but looks fine to me in general use and gaming.

fired up a couple of games and looked great, ive never used g/freesync before but cs go looked so much sharper running freesync. other than that no problems to report and this is looking like a keeper as I'm well pleased with it.

over the next couple of days I will do some more testing and report back with some pics

Sharper? No clue how basicly a Vsync without Inputlag could make the image sharper.
