There's been a lot of people melting/upgrading :)

I'm not convinced LTI is a deal breaker tbh, everyone is going to have it on all or a majority of their ships but will still have to insure any modifications, weapons etc they add later (unless those come with LTI - like the battlefield upgrade kits). So the costs are likely to be minimal at worst. Realistically it's more valuable to have LTI on larger ships which will get into fights more often.

One thing I've read recently (reddit I think) was someone assuming LTI covered the cost of repairs of the hull. As was pointed out to him it's replacement only and you'll have to wait for that to happen so the old "I'm damaged, just get myself destroyed" really won't help either.

I've melted several smaller ships so I now have a Reclaimer and a Crucible as well, moved into the more focused utility ships as we've so many military ones in our org which I'll be crewing anyway.

Yeah that's the thing I don't think people have realised, especially for the ultra rare ships (limited production runs) is that once the ship is destroyed you have to wait for it to be produced and shipped to you... Normal ships will be 'quick' but the bigger, more expensive, rarer will be longer to be returned... So there is immense value in nursing this ship home, even if heavily damaged... Will provide some fun mechanics... And some complaints when people fully work that out.

There will obviously be a cut off for max wait time for game play mechanics, so the Banu MM will be produced but in very limited quanities and you'll probably get a 'traded' in one from a family that has upgraded... Anyway, as I said will make those playing as mobile repairers actually useful.

Yeah, LTI isnt going to be a huge thing, but i suspect a lot of it is status (more what it used to mean, i suppose) and it being a small saving in-game.

The way i see it, the hull insurance is going to be minimal. Theres 3 types of insurance. CR has said that when you buy a ship you'll end up spending something like 3-4x that amount simply upgrading it with better components.
If you use that assessment for insurance, then the hull insurance is going to be about 1/4 of the cost saved. So if its typically 100k UEC/mo to insure the ship, then it might only be 75k now (plus cargo insurance, if it applies).

When you consider that theres landing fees, transaction fees, hangar fees, repair costs, ship maintenance, resupplying physical ammo, and then insurance, theres no way that the cost of all those combined is going to be huge, because its not real life and the idea isnt to simply cover the cost of living with a little cash to spare.
So when you factor in the portion of the insurance that LTI covers (hull only) and that all these costs needs to be reasonable, that hull insurance cant be all that expensive.

Also, people dont own 1 ship, they might own 1 now, but they'll have dozens in the PU. If hull insurance was 1% of the average players income, if they had 10 ships thats 10% of their income. If 'Upgrade Insurance' is 4x that, your at 50%, before fuel, ammo, repairs, and general fees.

This is the reason why i think CIG keep emphasising how LTI isnt important, its not a deal breaker. LTI is likely to be saving us a slither, maybe on 10 ships that a fraction of a slice, but not having it isnt going to cripple players, it simply doesnt make sense to. Imagine all the ships an Org is likely to have, and be expected to insure etc.

Just had an invite email for PTU. Not played it in 6 months or done any issues council stuff lol

Backed 19/10/2012 Backer number 00041106. A friend also had an invite he backed 20/10/2012 Backer number 00043407

Sean Tracy, the engine guy is in Discord chat now:

so again guys big news on this patch...backend services are getting slammed by extra added members making login a bit harder BUT once you are in...you should stay in for quite a lot longer game side crashes are being fixed like crazy

we need the extra 50k to stress backend services now that we got a huge amount of the game breakers out

Don't even bother, it crashes constantly. Letting in another 35K people seems like a mistake.

Crashes are good in alpha, the whole point of it. The more data you have to analyse the easier to fix :)

Haven't downloaded the client in six months or so, will give it a go. Can I fly my connie yet?

Crashes are never good, it's just better to fix them in the PTU, but it's the most unstable PTU I've ever tested.

If you have PTU access you can fly your Constellation, but your time in it will be brief with the instability.

whats a good joystick for this game?

or even is there any profiles for steam pad :)

whats best ??

Got a steam pad coming next week so will have a try there is no best controller, keyboard and mouse works very well. Stick wise... Warthog, saitek x55 or ch products all popular at one end, plenty of cheaper options around too. T16000m is particularly accurate for a cheap stick, has a poor throttle though.
