Netflix vs Amazon Prime

Indeed. Reported on many websites, including The Verge. An enterprising commenter on The Verge mentioned that there are virtual prepaid VISA card companies like EntroPay that allow you to create a virtual prepaid card with multiple currencies. I would imagine that Netflix will restrict the catalog to the country that the credit card is registered to, much like Spotify and iTunes currently does. This might be a way to get around that, although it would require a paid account in each country.

If they do restrict me to uk netflix, i'll just cancel and stick with Amazon Prime and Now TV. I generally only use Netflix for other regions, I very rarely watch our Netflix.

I wouldn't worry about it unless it happens, it's not like there's contracts.

Secondly I would be surprised, they've never cared, and it could very well just be propergander to keep certain groups happy.

And you just use dons like unblock-us or a VPN, it's literally a few clicks.

I am not convinced that it is "just propaganda to keep certain groups happy".

https://media.netflix.com/en/company-blog/evolving-proxy-detection-as-a-global-service said:
That means in coming weeks, those using proxies and unblockers will only be able to access the service in the country where they currently are.

They'll likely use a number of different mechanisms. Hulu, for examples, blacklists a whole load of IPs belonging to VPN companies/networks. iTunes, for example, restricts content by billing country, but given that they just said "where they currently are", I would expect Netflix to not restrict based on billing country.

It remains to be seen how effective Netflix will be, but I would imagine that they must have been under some pretty heavy pressure to have had to make a public statement about it.

There is a shed load of stuff coming to Netflix this year. Prime was terrible when I used it - hardly any good content and the good stuff you had to pay for, why should you have to pay on top of the existing cost to watch 'prime' content? Stick to Netflix.

.

See part 1) don't worry about it unless it happens, there's no contract.

Three have said that the one plan would be scrapped, people moved away from it primitively, yet over a year latter, the rest of us are still on it.

So it does and can happen. If it does happen we cross that bridge when it happens, until then don't let it influence you.

Oh, it doesn't worry me. My housemates and I have US Netflix and there's nothing that I have wanted to watch that was available from other Netflix regions. :)

I would imagine a fair few will start cancelling their subscriptions.

They must be getting a lot of stick from licence holders. Everyone that uses Netflix knows to run it through a VPN/Proxy to the US libraries.

The BBC were quoting that Australian viewers have access to a library that's about 10% of the size of the US library. How is that fair? If they offer the service at 10% of the US price, then OK i'm sure many will be fine with that. But i'd be well peeved living in Australia and having to pay an equivalent rate to the Americans, yet only getting 10% of the product.

At the end of the day it's all about the money.

I prefer Netflix, spend too much time looking through Prime only to find something I fancy and then find it's a pay to watch video.

Took a prime free sub to test it and found the same. That really annoyed me. Plus after watching Mr Robot and Man in the high castle there wasn't much else worth watching.

I've had Netflix since it was £4 p/m in the UK and I think it's brilliant. The Netflix originals alone make it worth keeping.

Narcos, House of Cards, Brojack Horseman, Beasts of No Nation, Better Call Saul(?), Orange is The New Black, lots of documentaries, Dare Devil, Jessica Jones (and hopefully Luke Cage) and Marco Polo.

I didn't feel like Amazon even came close.

The thing is with Amazon prime, it's not just the TV/movie streaming you're paying for, there are plenty of ancillary benefits from having a membership.

Same/next day delivery, music streaming, unlimited photo cloud storage, kindle book rental, family sharing and i'm sure there is some other stuff i've forgotten.

When you compare it like that, Netflix suddenly looks very poor.

Also their exclusives are getting better each year. Most recently Bosch, Hand of God and Man In The High Castle have all been superb. Sure netflix has more content at the moment, it's been running significantly longer than the TV portion of Amazon prime.

For the record, I have and use both, however i'd quit NF in a heartbeat if I got restricted to UK content only.

Agree with sixtwosix. The Amazon extras make it totally worthwhile as an in all one package. A couple of months ago Amazon did a discount and I got a year for £60. All that for £60 is awesome IMO.

I have both anyway. Once I've paid my lump sum for Amazon, the extra for Netflix doesn't really feel like much. What with Amazon, Netflix and sky, I get very confused of an evening. Not enough time in the world.

@ robfosters...what do you watch on Sky? If it's mainly just TV/movies, you should ditch it and get NowTV instead, fraction of the price and all the same stuff.

Not sure about sport though as it doesn't interest me.
