Netflix vs Amazon Prime

You do, but it is surprisingly limited. And, in my experience, the interfaces on mobile and desktop suck compared to Spotify and Google Music.
It really is terrible, tried using it for a few days the other month and gave up.
Apparently the VPN "blocking" is now in effect.

Can anyone confirm?
It was still working for me on the US region yesterday, I'll check when I get home if I remember.

Will check on the blocking when I get home. If it's in effect, Netflix will get cancelled today without hesitation.

EDIT: Actually maybe after House of Cards has premiered ;)

No doubt there will be a workaround shortly though.

Pre pay card and use a US address along with the current proxy/DNS will probably get round it.

Just did a 5 minute google...apparently all NF will do is blacklist popular IP ranges the unblocking sites use. Fairly sure the workarounds will be there within hours.

Nice half arsed attempt just so they can show the content providers they're trying to do something about it without getting rid of all their customers.

The problem with this is I don't really want US netflix either, it's marginally better than the UK one.

The strength of Netflix is when you can use multiple regions on a single account, there are a handful of movies which pop up on obscure regions like Japan or Saudi Arabia. I'm going to access these regions once in a a blue moon and wouldn't be worth paying for each region seperately.

Well netflix has definitely started trying to block a certain popular vpn service today as I was locked to UK Region, but without any error messages that have been reported elsewhere. However different dns ranges have started to appear which have solved the issue for now, so it's just a question of whether this will last...

Toys out of the pram time is it.

Your comment is little more than bait but i'll bite.

Would you continue to subscribe to a service if the majority of content got restricted?

Netflix UK isn't worth the monthly subscription, the selection is poor. Therefore I use a paid workaround to get the other regions. This is where NF becomes worthwhile.

If I was limited to UK only, i'd watch the content that interests me in a short time. Therefore i'd probably re-sub every 3/4 months, watch then cancel after a month.

It's a case of pay £7/month for a poor library where i'll watch a few NF exclusives, or pay ~£10/month for a worldwide library where i'll watch plenty, it's no contest.

It's not like i'm a lone party here, users will cancel in droves if this is enforced heavily, however NF can absorb the loss so probably don't care.

EDIT: It's all good, working fine still with no changes required :D

I've been on the verge of cancelling for ages and I don't even use an unblock service. The selection is dire. NowTV is sooooo much better for films.

Tried Netflix but wasn't enough on there for me. Now using Prime and it's brilliant plus being able to download full episodes onto my phone to watch anywhere (in my case on the tube underground) is great.

I'm not baiting you i know it's rather unfair that the yanks get a lot more content than other countries, that's just odd world we live in, but to say i am leaving because maybe Netflix will try and stop you having access which your not entitled to in the first place.

I have Netflix btw and fairly happy with it, i don't get a great deal of time to watch lots of tv anyway, so maybe the content is ok for my needs. :)

If there is a good series i really want i just buy the blu-ray as trying to catch up on 6 or 7 series of shows is hard in short space of time before they pull it.

Fair enough, just felt like a bait comment :)

I didn't say i'm leaving because they may try and stop me, I said I would leave if they did stop me. It's clear cut, if they stop the worldwide access, i'll cancel because then it's no longer worth the money, until that point, i'll continue my subscription.

With my Netflix account 2 people can be logged in at the same time..

How many people can be logged into a prime video account at the same time ??

Just checked on my iPad as the wife is watching something on Prime on the TV (fire stick) and it works fine.

Depends on the show you want to watch. There are a number of Amazon exclusives which are amazing but same with Netflix... so try catching a pilot with a friend and then make a decision. :)

I've watched Netflix on my phone from a hotel in Birmingham while the wife is watching on the TV at home not in Birmingham.

I imagine it's the kind of thing that is probably OK until they start seeing dozens of people logged in from all over the country.

The difference with Amazon is that you can share a Prime account, so as long as you log in as a member of the shared account it should be fine
