Netflix vs Amazon Prime

Both have awful interfaces through seemingly any method of accessing them.

I get constantly frustrated with Prime as I keep hitting things that are an additional charge. Its really difficult to filter them out of results too.

So based on that, and the fact I watch Netflix more, Netflix wins. But having both is not that expensive in the big picture so just do that.

@ robfosters...what do you watch on Sky? If it's mainly just TV/movies, you should ditch it and get NowTV instead, fraction of the price and all the same stuff.

Not sure about sport though as it doesn't interest me.

I'm sports mad mate. Got to have all the sports channels. Only option is sky.

How do you access Prime?

On my Smart TV, I load the app and right at the top are 4 tabs - HOME, PRIME, MOVIES and TV.

All stuff on the Prime tab is included with standard membership. Within the Prime tab you can filter down to movies & tv and then filter down further by Genre.

Ah cool, makes sense then. :)

You can't remove the non Prime content from search results though. I have zero intention of ever paying the ridiculous price they want for non Prime content, so would like a big "hide all non free stuff" button so that I never see it. But alas, they aren't going to make it easy for me are they, they want me to pay for stuff.

I just realised what you mean, actual searches within the interface.

You've just got to look for the Prime label over the corner of the cover image, that's the only way to know. it's an annoyance.

I do occasionally pay for newer movies if it's stuff i've really been waiting for and missed in the cinema. £4.50 for a 48 hour rental is a lot but don't have any other option if i'm not willing to wait for it to hit another service. :(

Considering I already pay £80 to access the service, I'm never going to give them another £5 quid to borrow a digital movie on top of that :p. I'd rather wait.

I know why they do it, and a lot of people are fine with it. But other people (like me and my GF) find it annoying and frustrating enough that Prime is always the second place we look for something to watch after Netflix.

I have an Amazon prime subscription - primarily because I want free deliveries for my Amazon purchases - and also find that a lot of the films I want to watch on the video service are behind a pay wall. It really is a big drawback and I'd also prefer the option to not be shown content that I don't immediately have unfettered access to.

Yep, same. If I could just get Prime for delivery I would.

The paid items are enough of an annoyance that it deters us from wanting to bother searching through it. But I suppose as they already have their money out of me Amazon don't give a monkies that I then don't watch anything on it.

The paid films are not Amazon's fault though are they? Isn't it more the studios who restrict things from inclusive streaming services?

Amazon don't have to include them, or they could separate paid content from subscription content. They choose not to. Totally up to them, but they're the only streaming service I can think of that bundles all the content in together like that.

Yeah I've no issue with Amazon offering paid content, my issue is its interspliced with the free content throughout the whole system, so your constantly clicking on things only to then find out its chargeable.

It annoys me, and because it annoys me, I don't use it.

For me? Both. But then I was using the Amazon delivery and other 'perks' before Amazon Prime Video landed in the UK.

Both of them have different shows that aren't available on the other, in terms of shows I'm rewatching that have been on other networks, and new commissioned series that are 'exclusive' - I'd probably say Netflix has the edge with House of Cards, Orange is the new black etc. but I've enjoyed "The Man in the High Castle" and 'Bosch' on Amazon Prime recently.

Either way, Netflix + Amazon mean I don't feel the need to pay out for Sky, and both are easily cheaper than a year's Sky sub!

We cancelled sky and went

freeview via original sky box and xbox one tuner
Netflix with unblocker
amazon prime (already prime for delivery)
12 months now tv entertainment and movies (black Friday deal)

when you get family and friends involved into the mix, its only a few quid each month

just looking into Spotify family or google music family today

still find myself using KAT though lol
