Some really basic questions about factions:

Can you get ranked with more than one at a time?

Does doing work for one reduce your standing with another? Or only if your actions are directly against the other?

I had a mission from the federation to kill some civilians in Alliance space. Presumably I'd become wanted, and lose standing with Alliance for doing that?

If I had a hankering for an Imperial Courier, what would be the quickest way to get the needed rank? GO to an Imperial system and just take missions?

You can happily work on both, though clearly, as you've spotted some missions might end up in hot water with the other major faction.
I'm currently a warrant officer with the feds (gets me a FAS) and am working through Lord in the Imperials as I really fancy a Clipper.
To get them, yep, just take Imperial faction missions.
There are some systems that give out "donate" missions more frequently, which can fast track your route through. I went to the recommended system, but wasn't too impressed.

Thanks for that.

And how do you tell if a mission is goof for a faction standing? They generally just tell you which minor faction they're for. Do you have to know who that minor faction is allied with?

It's a lot better with a half decent joystick. Thrustmaster T Flight HOTAS can be picked up for ~£30 and it's great as a starter joystick. I put around 100 hours on mine before deciding I was in to it enough to warrant an upgrade to an X52.

I rather gave up on ED because of trying to play it with keyboard and mouse and struggling. I might get hold of a T-Flight and give it another try. Would this joystick be a good choice for Star Citizen too (I should perhaps ask in the SC thread I know)?

So i seem to be getting deeper in to this game as time go's on, the sheer scale of it still boggles my mind :D

When i first decided to give ED a try i was deluded enough to think it was just a quick fly and gun game that had little depth and a lot of arcadey fun. Now i seem to be researching systems, scoping out trade routes and thinking about choosing a system as base of operations to progress my career from.
For now im hunting at res sites, building a reserve of cash and planning a new ship to expand my ability to earn cash on other avenues. On my current outings i keep crossing by conflict zones and hear mention of anarchy systems bt have not really looked in to them as of yet, can any one elaborate on these for me please?

For now im playing in a private pve group called mobius but have been thinking about venturing in to open play, what modes do you guys play in and would you advise against open play for such a green player??

This is a game that needs a stick and throttle tbh

I'm sitting at 500Mil now and have a long distance lightweight ASP and fighting A-rated Python

Joined the Imperial Inquisition also. Search DJTruthSayer on Twitch. Good bunch of lads tbh. We had Friday Fight Night tonight and it was a good laugh

Ok i've been using thrustmaster Hotas x for a couple months now, can anybody reccomend what i should upgrade to? seems to be quite afew which one is best for elite and star citizen?

Ah yes, conflict zones are basically little war zones where you can choose a side (literally, you need to choose a side after you drop in from your functions menu) and then earn credits by "handing in" your kills to a station in the system that your side is present in. It's actually a lot of fun because of all the ships you can kill! Just be careful and make sure you can cover your ships insurance.

Anarchy systems allow you to kill without getting a bounty on your head, and there are no police to help you out if you get attacked. Particularly dangerous places if you are trading in open play and passing through on a popular rares route

And yeah I may have impulse bought horizons at 1am last night

Oh yeah, all of my crew got bored of elite before the powerplay update (we did rinse it), so I'm after a wing to fly with if anyone here flies in a group?

In my opinion the Hotas X is perfect for ED - no need to upgrade unless you fancy a more shiny piece of kit.

But, If you've got a headset/mic then buy the VoiceAttack software for about £7. It lets you speak commands and it really adds to the immersion. It more than makes up for the limited number of buttons on the Hotas X.

Finally worked my way up to a Python! It's nicer being able to do considerably more damage to ships! :)

I'm struggling to find places to buy A rated Class 7 gear. Not that I could even afford that atm!

I've just gone from a Hotas X to an X52 Pro and it's a massive upgrade. The quality of it feels much better, it's a lot comfier for longer stints, the throttle is much smoother, the stick is smoother and more accurate, it's got more buttons and it looks awesome.

Thrustmaster warthog and a set of Saitek Pro rudder pedals.......

Mine hard crashed my pc. So returned it for the t flight HOTAS X. I like the rudder paddles on it as well (x52 doesn't have)

I missed the rudder paddles at first (had them mapped as forward and reverse thrusters) but the X52 has got so much more going for it that I've learned to cope.

The Hotas X was making my hands hurt when playing for more than ~30 minutes so doing a rare loop was killing me.

It's just a shame that there's no Elite profiles for the MFD!

Cheat and use this database

https://eddb.io/station

Put your component requirement top right and then select the system that you're in bottom left. It'll show you stations

What do you need A7 stuff for?
