Huh? That's a rather sideways move - are you a crab? Like Nexus said, either get another 970 for SLI, go big on a single GPU or get a Gsync screen to make the most of your 970, the 1080p one I have would work very well with your 970.
The good ones are crazy expensive, might be easier to go with a SFF case and have a portable desktop type setup than go with a cray cray expensive laptop.
Or just go back to your console and resign yourself fully to the fact you are not cut out to be PCMR.

Thing is, I'm away from home most days now, so my PC is only being used a few days, so thought if I got a gaming laptop, could still play with you guys when I'm away, but like you said, the good ones are mega expensive...

Yeah it probably does but why spend more money on a negligable performance gain. Did your 970 struggle with TD beta?

I never played the PC beta of TD, I'm usually away every weekend, more than likely will be for the open beta too

Except most of the people who have played the beta were very pleasantly surprised and thoroughly enjoyed it....
And the game looks superb and plays fantastic even on my old PC. The only game that looks and runs better is star wars battlefront.
I won't disagree on ubi's pricing but let's wait and see some prices from grey key sites

What settings were you using?
With all ultra at 2560x1440 stark was definetly chugging with his 970, he has since upgraded to a 980ti.
I had the same experience with a single 290 on ultra at 3440x1440, though when the game launches hopefully there will be a driver update shortly after so I can crossfire.
We both dropped to high and got mainly 50+ fps but still dropped to low 40s

it looks so meh. like it will be okay at best.
I'm not going to say its graphically the best game ever, but whoever says it looks meh needs an eye test, running around in thick snow/fog with the detail on the lighting, it does look amazing.
For a pretty big world with so much stuff going on, I think ubisoft(who I hate) did a great job.
