Nvidia GameWorks HBAO+ Behind Visual Corruption In Gears Of War Ultimate Edition

It only makes Nvidia look bad in the eyes of AMD fanboys. Rational people will think GOW makes the developer, i.e. Microsoft look bad. In fact, AFAIK there is no where in the game that tells users that it uses Nvidia's HBAO+ Gamesworks features.

Sattements like this "If MS used Gameworks they need to licence it from Nvidia which means they must collaborate with Nvidia to ensure it is implemented correctly" are just meaningless. Nvidia's is absolutely not responsible for what a developer does in the slightest, no more than Google is responsible if a developer makes a terrible Android app, or Toyota is responsible if you are a bad driver. These companies just provide a tool, how that tool is used is down to the client.

Nvidia is not responsible for developer QC, the developer and publisher are. Gamesworks is just a middleware library

Examples making people embarassed is not welcome here DP

People do love to bring up Linux like it's some magic solution that is perfect other than not having a graphics API to compete with DX.
With so many different distros of Linux surely it's just adding another variable into the mix and probably doesn't help developers if they have to make sure a game runs on the majority of them.

As I believe humbug has said just generally using Linux is probably more complicated for the vast majority of people. I've recently started playing about with a Raspberry Pi and found that it's quite a bit more involved trying to get it to play Twitch/Amazon/Netflix streams than it is on a Windows PC where you can just use a web browser. Chrome may work, but there's not a version of Chrome that will work on Raspbian Linux (If anyone knows how to install Chrome or play Amazon/Netflix through a Pi without paying for another service please let me know).

That's just one example.

Plus, you can use Vulkan on Windows right? As long as the Windows Store doesn't become the only way to play games in Windows...

I've no idea of your experience with Linux maonayze so this may not apply to you, but it just feels like Linux is a buzzword that people use now. Linux has been around for a while and some games are perfectly playable on it using OpenGL. there are possible a lot of games that would be playable in it using OpenGL but the developers didn't bother. I'm not sure that the fact that Vulkan works under Linux and that Linux is becoming a buzzword on forums is necessarily enough to change everything to the point where Linux is the gaming OS of choice.

From my point f view I'd probably lose 80-90% of my back-catalogue.

I never said it was a magic solution and I do come from an older background/generation of running games from DOS, so maybe I would fair a little better than some with Linux. However, I have tinkered with Linux enough to know that I too would rather go through windows as over the years windows has made it extremely easy to do things and I have forgotten (Probably through lazyness more than anything else) most of that old DOS/Linux stuff anyway.

I myself have a Rasberry Pi and have tinkered about and brought back a few memories. :)

However, as you said...."As long as the Windows Store doesn't become the only way to play games in Windows..."

I fear that Windows Store/10 may indeed become just another format that has exclusive titles and will further fragment PC gaming.

I have also listened to the info that has come from MS after the Tim Sweeney comments and it seems that not all the info was put out there for us to see and Tim has now back tracked a little on his original statements. My stance on it all is this....you can only make judgements on the info that is out there and with more info better decisions can and will be made.

I am wondering what would have happened if nothing had been said by anyone. Would MS have taken this and decided to create this locked down fortress of games or has Tim Sweeney's comments made them change the direction it was all originally going....even if it was only a slight deviation.

Never trust a corporation because they are driven by money and very little else. Stand up for your rights as a gamer and fight with your wallet...because it's the only language they understand. :D

Sorry dude, but you are the one who is contradicting your own argument when it suits you to do so. Your goalposts got wheels on them man. ;)

I'm not contradicting anything.

Nvidia sometimes helps developers, sometimes they don't. Nexus18 has no argument in the slightest, he is just trolling.

Remember Valve are a corporation too and they're also after your money. I'm sure Valve would love to lock Steam into SteamOS if they thought they could. Let's not think too highly of Valve or champion them too much.
Just like AMD and Nvidia. Does anyone really think AMD wouldn't be doing dodgy tactics too if they controlled 80%+ of the market. Probably the biggest difference between AMD and Nvidia is current circumstance.

The grass isn't necessarily greener on the Linux side, it's just a different shade of the same colour, but jmight look greener from where you're stood now.

As for Vulkan, well it's all just a lot of hype at the minute from a company with a track record of missing opportunities to put DX in its place.

I'm not saying the current situation is ideal I'm just aware that somethign is necessarily better because it's different.

The Nv middleware-GW cant runing in multi-engine,(DX12)its maded for single-engine for DX11,so in this time its not used in this game, because the game is DX12... its impossible, its not gameworks.
Never-ever belive for WCCFTech,its a clickbait site...

You must be real fun at parties.

Vulkan (née GL Next) had a chance to get in before DX12 but they killed it with their dithering and delaying.

Now DX12 is already being taught to new developers.

I didn't realise JC3 DX12 features are implemented by Intel,GOW is MS,Deus Ex and AotS are AMD sponsored. TR is meant to get a patch but after ARK I am not holding my breath.

Are there any upcoming Nvidia sponsored DX12 games in the 6 months? I would like to try one out on my GTX960.

So we cant fix this ourselves by overriding settings, mods, or messing with config files?

Well, i'm out, seeing more and more of closed source attempts at screwing consumers over, android has it too with youtube 60fps hence why my tablet now thinks its an s5

AMD’s Gears of War woe might be Nvidia PhysX in the mix

A new angle on the story.

I don't think it tries to run physx on AMD card itself , since it has no hardware support, but instead runs in on cpu instead in AMD's case. Someone with nvidia could try to disable hardware support (I think you need to be offline as game automatically overwrites the setting to default from windowstore if you edit it).

AFAIK bDisablePhysXHardwareSupport does absolutely nothing if you don't have hardware (GPU) that supports PhysX.

It gets complicated from there because you have to qualify:

(A) Is the game making use of advanced physics effects
(B) Are those effects being run on the CPU on AMD and GPU on nVidia
(C) If B is true then is the performance impact from those effects on AMD more significant than if the effect was implemented using a different physics API (not an easy one to test)
(D) Are those effects adding anything meaningful to the game worthy of the performance impact.

Or you could just got on a rant about nVidia and PhysX/GameWorks without understanding anything about the technology and look incredibly stupid to anyone clued up.

Or look incredibly stupid each time a GW's title releases in a mess and go on a rant that it's never Nv's fault and point the finger at the devs-despite the fact 9/10 it's the GW's effects that is the problem.:p

Who implements the effects though?
Did HBAO+ cause the same issues in Rise of the Tomb Raider, Fallout 4, and even in the Division? No.

In those cases AMD actually does better than NVIDIA's own hardware. Is that also NVIDIA's effects results? Or is it because the developers this time actually implemented them correctly, and cared about their products?

Someone already tested the physx thing, his AMD cpu results were only a touch higher but more spiky than the nvidia run. But not high enough in the way that running Physx on the CPU would show.

The game is also running on an older version of unreal engine. And as far as you can see there are no physx enhancements beyond standard physics calculations. And if they had added physics enhancements then it would have been bigger ip as a feature. The problem more than likely revolves around the dx12 shaders.

Stop the press AMD apparently comes out trumps in one effect out of all the GW's effects in titles released to date shocker.:D
