PlayStation 4 Pro in-bound

I must be one of the few who don't really see 500GB as a constraint, I have a pretty good Internet connection so downloading things is never really an issue. I guess for some people that is either something they need to consider, or maybe they just like having their entire library downloaded and installed at all times but from a personal standpoint I have a handful of games installed at one time and when I'm finished playing with them I simply delete them to free up space.

On a sort of related note I don't understand people who need more than 16GB of storage on a phone either, everything is streamed nowadays, movies, music, photos and contacts all stored in the cloud.

It's a brilliant master plan to get the current "must have the latest society" to upgrade to something that basically will do what the current item does/will do but looks better/neater. Get them to trade in there old Ps4 cheap and then re-condition them to sell at reduced prices into the underdeveloped markets where they will then cream the profits from the game titles.

Genius if you ask me.

I'd expect 4k media and integrated 4k upscale chip (already in use in their TV's) with associated ports and the VR gubbings tucked up neatly inside.

Thing is it'll need a fast rollout or be rebuked as many people who were considering a current PS4 will hold back as this rumour goes mainstream.

Quality wise I don't think there is viable $ headroom for a major leap in the next 3 to 5 years. VR is the next big thing and if your not on the boat your stranded. If I were to have been interested in a PS4 since they confirmed PSVR in October (Which I am) I'd now be waiting to see if I could get it in a neater package with maybe a couple of future proof bonuses (4k media).

10 games installed and that 500GB is practically used.

A 32GB MicroSD card is far cheaper than paying my network for more data.

I have unlimited 4G data on my phone contract and the connection isn't perfect. Last year on a drive across the country, I tried streaming a podcast. It kept on cutting out due to loss of data connection (and even reset to the start everytime it did so). As someone who listens to a lot of music on their phone, high storage is essential. I don't even have all of my music on my phone and it's 60+ GB on it's own. And that's just regular mp3, not even FLAC.

All my music is stored digitally on my PC, so if I wanted to stream my music, the PC would have to be turned on to stream from. A waste of electricity to leave a powerful PC turned on all day just to be able to stream music. A NAS might help in this regard though.

And here's the killer, using data on my phone causes the battery to deplete a lot faster. The funny thing is, just playing regular music stored on microSD is super efficient, to the point where I left music playing on full blast for 12+ hours and the battery didn't even drop a single %.

So yeah... there is absolutely still a desire for storage on portable devices. Internet, battery life and even data plans aren't perfect yet.

Indeed, I was looking at regular SD cards today (my brother bought a 32GB for a tenner) and I saw that there are 32GB microSDs from reliable brands for well under a tenner.

Aplogies for being off topic. I don't think the PS4.5 will catch on. The existing userbase of PS4 is large and they'd be annoyed at having to buy a new system to play games the best.

i don't have a 4K TV, my Amazon Fire 4K can do 4K but I have no reason to upgrade, again.

It's a bit too soon, especially when it is upscaled, and not true 4k rendering.

I don't care much re. 4K upscaling, but if games will have a higher and/or more consistent frame rate on the new model then it will be a right ****ter and defeat much of the attraction of going for a console in the first place.

Yup exactly, got a powerful PC but if i wanted another PC i'd buy one where as I like the console for chilling out on. Don't want to have to worry about upgrades and new ones coming out with newer tech and better graphics/framerates.

Just seems like something that a lot will want but many won't want to upgrade when having already bought the console. People say it won't make much of a difference but currently everyone is in the same boat if a game runs crap then all have to put up with it, if you come up against someone with the newer console and it runs that much better your already at a disadvantage.

I have over 5000 photos on my phone as I use it for work and have to frequently document issues and I am so busy I simply do not have the time to actually organise/delete images/videos.. hence my 64GB iPhone is absolutely rammed!

Reg the PS4.5.. not that bothered as long as it doesn't put those with a regular PS4 at a disadvantage then I guess it doesn't really matter.

If they did make new PS4 to support 4K games, be prepared for a new wave of remakes.

Uncharted Collection 4K Remake
Uncharted 4K
God of War 4K Collection
Killzone 4K Edition.
Tomb Raider Super Duper Definite 4K Edition

Don't get excited about new IP's in 4K because you wouldn't get any for years. Look how this generation started out.

This would really surprise me if it actually happens, don't own a console at the moment but I could potentially see it benefiting PC games to have consoles a bit closer to the current PC high end.

Instead of targeting 4k is it not to target their VR release this year?

VR is Sony's target, its only people jumping the gun thinking its 4K gaming. Like everyone has a 4K TV to take advantage of anything at all.

I bet many are still gaming on their "HD Ready" TV's.

I like the sound of TRSDD4K Edition.

Related info from a meeting we had yesterday was waiting for it to be approved before posting.

Price is currently $399.99 they were discussing a better CPU which would raise the price to $499.99 we were guaranteed the price will be no higher than $499.99 (He mentioned the CPU upgrade quite a bit almost as if they haven't really decided on a final spec could be a pricing issue.) also there is currently no plan for any type of trade in program for current PS4 users but that could change.

They stated that the GPU is twice as powerful as standard PS4 and much faster. They did not say exactly how fast but that is was running at a higher clock speed while being much smaller than the original.

It will have a 4k blu ray player and will upscale games that are not natively 4k.

Also there was talk of some sort of VR lounge for the media player app which is supposed to be getting a substantial upgrade.

It was stated plainly and with no room for interpretation that there are developers that already have development kits for the PS4K and that they are making games that will directly target and take advantage of the higher specs of the PS4K. It was also stated that these games will in fact work for the PS4 but with considerable sacrifices made to performance.

It was also made very clear that current games would not be getting any type of performance upgrades by being played on the system and any benefits to older games would come via patch per game and per developer. When asked if this was going to happen the response was "Its a possibility but doubtful with the exception of a handful of games."
We were also given a list of games that will be available at launch that will directly take advantage of the PS4K where the differences are and I will quote him "Significant."

For the PSVR

Eve Valkyrie
Robinson
GT Sport

For the PS4K

Deep Down (Thought this was dead)
GOW4 (This was the exact abbreviation on the sheet I can only assume its god of war 4)

There were more games on the list but these are the ones that stood out to me.

That's all I can remember off the top of my head I'll see if I can get any more information.

Well damn it.

My biggest bugbear with the current generation of consoles is the horrifically slow CPU's so it's sounding fantastic, even if it's only a low power AMD Excavator it should be a huge improvement. Intel i5 for me though ideally.

GPU twice as powerful but smaller? 290X on 14nm I wonder? or is it easy enough to go NVidia with a GTX 970? Intel/NVidia combination would be better suited to a console with limited cooling.
