Stock vs stock, the Corolla T-Sport is actually slightly quicker than the Celica T-Sport... ;)

I also never once claimed that the Corolla looks as good as, or handles as well as, a Celica. :)

I've wanted one of these since about 2009 when I rode in the one owned by someone who worked where I did my GCSE work experience. An opportunity came up to trade for one with my Corolla, my Corolla Compressor alloys, and some cash. I got a very nice bonus at work recently, so I thought "Why not..." :D

A Celica sounds like the sort of car you have as your only car. Not as a weekend warrior. Very strange choice but then did anyone expect anything less? :p

It really wasn't... It was a fantastic price. :)

After putting forward my Corolla, some Corolla Compressor alloys, and some other bits and pieces in an offer of part exchange, I only needed to add £1100 on top for the car without the modifications. The re-built gearbox with uprated internals was thrown in because he had it already, for £300. The flywheel, £200. The clutch I already had in a box and posted to him, same with the bushings. £100 to fit the bits, fill the box with new oil, and give it a full service. Cold air induction is free because I'm giving him my Corolla one in exchange for it.

Who is doing the work? I'd love a gearset for my mr2 box.

It's a proper 2zz T-Sport right? Not the 140bhp 1zz?

Yes but nowhere near as fun :p Acceleration wise wouldn't be much in it but your 530D would edge it, and would walk it with a remap, but it was also very expensive in comparison, and is a totally different car... I was just scraping the barrel for car related personal attacks because I do secretly quite like your car. :)

Work is being done by a chap near Birmingham who modifies/repairs/breaks/buys/sells Corollas, Celicas, and GT86's/BRZ's (and occasionally MR2's, Yaris', and other bits and bobs). :) He is very well known and trusted in the Corolla owners club. - SJ Autosport his company is called (at the moment :p) Drop me a trust message if you want his details.

And yes it is the full fat 2ZZ. :)

Anyway, mixed reception as with everything I do or say... Was expected. :D

I'm excited and thats all that matters really... :)

Allow me to break it down how it is in my head, if anyone cares:

- Getting rid of my car and getting the Octavia and the Celica GT complete with mods, is costing me about £3000 in total.
- Insurance is increasing by about £60 a month overall
- Fuel cost is decreasing by about £150 a month overall
- My commutes will be more pleasant!
- My weekend driving and evening drives will be more fun!
- The Corolla needs a new clutch, the Celica will have a brand new one, the Octavia doesn't need one yet.
- The Corolla may need a new flywheel, the Celica will have a brand new one, the Octavia doesn't need one yet.
- The Corolla leaks and drinks oil, the Celica doesn't leak or drink a drop, I don't care if the Octavia does.
- The Corolla needs new brakes very soon, the Celica has new disks and pads all round, so does the Octavia.
- The Corolla needs new tyres very soon, the Celica has new tyres, the Octavia has good tyres.
- There are several other niggles with the Corolla which the Celica does not suffer from, nor does the Octavia.
- The Celica is a much cooler car and will have an LSD and all the other bits and pieces mentioned!
- The Celica will hold its value much better.

When you first take off all the money I'm saving by ditching the Corolla, and then consider the fuel savings of running the Octavia minus the insurance hike (£90 a month / £1000 a year) it all lines up quite nicely... Plus I want to do this... So there. :D

So you are getting a Celica GT on an 06 plate with a tonne of mods with an Octavia Diesel chucked in for 4k (Guessing your Corolla is worth a grand trade in). Sorry to sound the sceptic here but I can guarantee the Celica is going to be a lemon. A decent GT with your goodies especially on a late plate is going to be 5k+ car easily.
 
You cannot guarantee that at all. You can merely speculate :p

Why not just get something that's as quick as (or quicker than) the Celica, with the economy close to that of the Octavia, and that you'll use every day? :confused:

Neither car (Octavia and Celica) are specialist enough to warrant the other for use at the weekend/weekday.

If you really want a weekend car, get something that's completely unpractical for day to day commuting, but will be properly fun at the weekend or out on track.

I've done the whole two car (and three car at one point) thing, and my two were most definitely not different enough for it to be worthwhile, what ended up happening is that I drove one of them almost all the time, and the other was left standing, sometimes for months on end, soaking up insurance and tax costs, whilst depreciating (even worse when I had an E36 325i sat there as well!) . (FWIW that was my "tweaked" 265BHP 2003 Leon Cupra R, and my remapped 2003 E46 330d).

Running two "normal" (let's not beat around the bush here, the celica, even with the mods is pretty "normal" and tame) cars rarely makes either financial or even logical sense.
 
It does when the Octavia will be driven circa 25,000 miles a year, and I still want something more fun for personal use. That's all there is to it really. I really like the engine in the Corolla, and I've wanted a GT for a long time. That's it. :)

If you haven't driven anything with the 2ZZ motor in, you wont appreciate how great it is.

Acme, if you had a financial advisor s/he would likely have shot you by now. Perhaps your common sense already shot itself :p I also don't understand a Celica as a weekend car, it's not especially fast, it's not renowned for its handling or dynamic drive, it's just a very normal very average coupe. Fair enough, you saw one when you were younger and loved its looks, but still...
