Show us your kitty cats

He's going in to the see the vet at 10:30 this morning.
Thanks for the tips on Cystophan, i'll see if i can get some for the future as this appears to be quite common after doing some research.

I buy mine from vetuk. 30 tablets cost less than £10. The vets wanted £30 for the same amount.

Cheers Knip.

Is it something that you give daily?

You're meant to, but unless she's having a flare up, I give it every other day as a maintenance dose. She's only had one flare up in over a year now. When she had the flare up recently (new neighbourhood cat was stressing her out) I didn't take her to the vets, gave her the tablets every day for 4 days and she was fine.

It's this stuff.

I don't go through the insurance cos I'm sure it would mean my premium went up, so it's cheaper to do it this way.

Hetty looking a bit special.. She likes to sleep with her arms hanging off things for some reason!

Flexing. Showing off those gains.

its more if you can get it cheaper online than from the vets - no point in lining their pockets excessively :)

Think I might've misworded that, he was saying why does it matter what the cystese cost if the insurance were paying for it.

If they ram all prices up over 300% then it's only going to lead to insurance costs going up!

Mine covered 50% of the cost of the medically requested food.

Why does it matter what it costs? Is that a serious question?

yeah why not, if your insurance is paying for the meds then its not coming from your pocket. they wont cover meds you source yourself, thats fairly self explanatory.

edit: didnt see this bit:

they know what vets charge for meds, their premiums will be factored accordingly. its not like the prices have suddenly gone up.

So Lola puked this morning. Everywhere. I'd given her new wet food for the first time shortly before, so think it was that. HOWEVER, in all the sick was a fairly hefty furball, and some raw mince. The mince would have been from 2 days ago, and wasn't digested at all. She only had a little bit when I was cooking tea.

Is it normal for food to stay like this and not be digested for 2 days? Could the hairball have been blocking somewhere inside so the food couldn't get through?

She seems fine now, just wanted to ask others opinions. :)

Btw everyone who owns a cat should get a water fountain. My cats never used to drink much now they drink all the time. This is especially important if your cat has any kind of kidney problems.

Bruce sits in the bath and looks at me until I turn the tap on for him :D

Knip did you give lola raw mince meat from a packet or was it a steak that you minced yourself?

I can't believe Petplan won't cover Dentisept for my cat. Dentisept prevents bacterial build ups, and they say they don't pay for preventative treatments. HOWEVER, my cat has calicivirus, which means he has has developed a very large ulcer on his tongue (like 50% of the surface area.. poor kitty). He is being treated with antivirals, but they can not work to clear the ulcer if it gets infected, therefore Dentisept is a required 'treatment' and not a 'prevention', right? Seems like very simple logic to me. Complained once to Petplan about this and the letter I got back was from a woman who couldn't even spell "calicivirus" properly, so she clearly had no idea what the condition entails.... Seems like they are just treating him like a regular healthy cat who just takes Dentisept as a kind of toothpaste, and not my cat who has a massive great mouth ulcer which is VERY prone to infection.

It's not expensive by any means, but it's the principle!

It was from a packet. Was cooking shepherds pie and gave her no more than a teaspoon full.

I know cat owners hate other cat owners telling them how to do things :D but can I advise that you absolutely do not ever use raw processed meat such as mince. The methods used in factories cannot guarantee that the mince will be free of contaminants or bacteria and it is likely that this is what has caused her the stomach issue. Mince has been put through a machine with countless other slabs of meat and could be harbouring bacteria, it's why we always have to be sure we cook mince thoroughly for ourselves, whereas steak we can eat rare quite safely.

Any meat from the supermarket bought for our cats (chicken breast or steak) I wash thoroughly as a matter of course. We will only buy meat in that form on the rare occasion that we've struggled to get to the butcher though. I know my butcher will have handled the meat with sound method and it wouldn't have been processed in a factory where it could have come in contact with countless other pieces of meat that could be carrying contamination.

Anyway, sorry to go on :) I'm a raw diet nut where our little gremlins are concerned.

Ok will bear that in mind. She's had raw chicken before with no issues but I take your point about the processed side of things. :)
(I'm a bit of a snob too when it comes to their food, none of that whiskas/Felix crap :D )

Interesting bit on the TV the other night about washing chicken and how it spreads any bacteria all over the place if done under a running tap.
