BBC Top Gear - Series 23 discussion thread

They should just kill this show now and put it out of its misery.

I really cannot stand Chris Evans and as for Joey from friends? No thanks.

RIP top gear.

Oooooh look at me, I have a different opinion to everyone else.

Under Clarkson and co. it was getting stale but still watchable and some laughs were there to be had. This was utterly unwatchable and well... just boring. I lasted 1/2 an hour which was being generous.

So you've seen less than half the first episode but somehow think your review is more trustworthy than someone who watched all of it.

I, like most people wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt and watch the first episode at least to see if I enjoyed it.

Unfortunately I didn't, but it may well be a case of being used to the previous three.

I think I will save my judgement until I have seen the next episode but at the moment, it isn't looking like I will be watching it again.

Mainly because I have never liked Evans - he just annoys me without even talking.

The Reliant skit was ok, but wonder if we'll miss having a third person. Hope they get others involved for future trips.

.

 Other than Chris Evans that was worst bit, nothing happened some really boring chat and even when it livened up off road it was still utterly boring and un funny.
How could anyone like that segment. Watch it again.

Personally thought LeBlanc was ok, especially in the Nomad film, although as has already been said, would be better with other co-hosts that he could play off against.

Evans will always be a marmite character, and whilst his Viper "review" did come across as being a Clarkson imitation, if he was left to just doing review segments and had less overall screen time, I don't think he would be too bad - the in the studio segments with him were the worst parts and largely what made him more annoying.

Two main presenters (i.e. Evans and Matt) isn't really enough - better with 3 or 4 regular presenters, at least would allow them to play off against each other, but also not need them to have as much screen time (e.g. Evans). I haven't seen the "Extra Gear" bit, but Chris Harris would likely be better actually in the main show, and also either make full use of Sabine in the Studio etc, or not bother and get someone else permanent.

The UK vs USA thing was pretty naff, and the Reliants didn't need to be in full stop. Be better to have done some kind of top trumps style thing with the presenters picking an appropriate national car for each challenge, maybe spread it out over the series.

Star in a car, generally just needless changes, and rather they had axed it and done something completely different.

Overall wasn't great, but not necessarily as bad as it could have been - will at least give it a couple more episodes, before completely condemning it.

Like I said in tuther thread I thought it was about the same as the old show just with different faces presenting it & it just shows how much of the show comes from the writers & producers & not from the presenters.
Matt Le Blanc did well for his first show but Chris Evans shouty 12 year old enthusiasm got annoying within about 3 minutes. As with the previous shows it will depend on the content from episode to episode on how good it is & not on who presents it which if I'm honest shocks me a bit but that's just how I see it. :)

I thought it was the same as the old show but instead of being irritated by Clarkson you get irritated by Evans instead. :p

It will be interesting to see how many people who said they won't be watching next weeks episode, comment on next weeks episode.

Despite how bad it was I'm sure the majority of people making such statements just do it to create drama.

Chris Evans...

He was pretty chuffed when I told him he'd made it into Top Gear, although ironically he's not that fussed about the show (new or old).

He told me he'd remembered seeing "those two prats, I thought that they were enthusiasts filming something for YouTube".

Guess he wasn't far wrong.

Typical....van sat in the middle lane! ;)

I didn't really enjoy Evans, very shouty as has already been mentioned - He was clearly copying Clarksons "style", and I was hoping for something more unique.

On the other hand, I really enjoyed watching LeBlanc, and look forward to more from him - His Nomad video was very cool, and his ability to throw it full throttle and still crack the jokes is exactly what Top Gear is all about. :)

I also liked that they added some dirt sections to the "Star in a Reasonably Priced Car", but they changed the car to a Mini

I'll keep watching :D But definitely can't wait to see "The Grand Tour" :)

see I don't get this either, in the reliant segment there was nothing, it wasn't just bad presenters, there was no ribbing or anything, just I broke down fill her up. no jokes, no typical mate ribbing just nothing. just an entirely pointless segment.
