Pro Cycling Discussion 2016

Holy **** I'm currently in Italy and was watching the end of the days race. Don't know why but watching the post race analysis and if I got a euro for every time they say Vincenzo Nibali I'd be able to afford to run my own world tour team. Yes I'm in Italy but **** me its ridiculous, especially as he's nowhere really.

Great solo break by Cummings.

Just caught the highlights. Some amazing riding from Cummings, as well as Impey and van Avermaet.

What a balls up with the 1km banner... Unbelievable.

Time for the favourites to show what they have in store as we get four giant climbs on the 184 kilometres between Pau and Bagnères-de-Luchon, including the Col du Tourmalet and the Col de Peyresourde.

Stage 8:

Just gonna leave this here

How many times did he win on the Champs Elysées?

You beat whoever else is in the race and Cav did that, it's not his fault if the competition was less strong at certain points. Having a strong team and a lead out train makes it easier, no question, but you've still got to be good enough to capitalise on the opportunities and there's no-one who has done so more often. If he has made winning from a bunch sprint look almost easy then that could be a measure of how good he is rather than a symptom of others failings. It's also worth remembering that the teams wouldn't keep trying to put him in those positions if they didn't feel he was worth it and gave them the best chance of winning. If I didn't know better I'd think that Cipollini was maybe a little bit jealous of what Cav has achieved.

Anyway, fantastic for Cavendish to be second on the all time list and I was pleased to see him have the yellow jersey for a stage. I don't know if he'll ever catch Merckx but he's done a hell of a job for someone who is "just" a sprinter.

Great win for Cummings as well, to hold a breakaway for that long and not let up was amazing.

Remind me why Cummings isn't going to the Olympics?

To be fair, he doesn't come across as much of a team player these days. As much as I enjoy his solo efforts and they are amazing no doubt about it, he spends most of his time right at the back of the peloton doing sod all for the team and then breaking on stages where he's got a chance of winning. It's all or nothing and it always seem to be on his own.

Froome tries a break!

... and again...

I wonder if Froome may be struggling? I'm sure I just saw him tell Pauels to slow down on the front when he attacked a bit.

Edit: no, I think he's fine. He's just attacked down the descent??? Dont park it in a ditch Chris.

What a decent from Froome, the Italian commentators were peeing themselves laughing at him on the top tube furiously pedalling away :D Great stage win.
