Pro Cycling Discussion 2016

True, but most when caught red handed and banned at least apologise for doing it and show sone sort of regret. Why I have so much time for Millar! Valverde on the other hand...

Pfft, Millar is just as bad, tried to blame doping on his upbringing (?!) and then claimed a load of his biggest wins were clean anyway. Pull the other one Dave.

Doping past aside, i still think Valverde lights up hilly stages with his probing and attacking. Makes exciting racing.

Agree with that. Unfortunately doping and exciting racing go (/went?) hand in hand to an extent as previous GT parcours were just far too difficult to have both clean and exciting racing.

I'm a big fan of the shorter mountain stages we are seeing now where riders aren't completely knackered by the time you hit the final slopes and can actually make moves. It's much more interesting than riding tempo up the last hill while the group slowly whittles down.

I think they've got the balance a bit wrong this year though, all the mountain stages are pushing 100 miles with some hilly stages well in excess of that, like yesterday's. It's too much in my opinion and I really hope I'm wrong, but I think the strength of Sky and Movistar is going to make for some really snoozy racing. :(

Valverde is a knob. As is Nibali. But they both spice it up now and again and it makes the racing fun. With great panache comes great responsibility. Funnily enough all these riders with the most panache are total knobs and I find myself in a love/hate relationship with them.... Sagan, Voeckler etc all on this list.

Agree OMS, the dominance of Sky/Movistar marshalling the peloton and dictating the break really does make the racing less interesting but at the same time as it being boring you have to admire the capababilities and talent of their teams to manage that. Controlling a peloton of that size and ushering your guy to the yellow over 3 weeks is a ridiculous strategic and physical feat and I think the vast majority of viewers don't actually see just how difficult doing it really is!

My adopted rider on Reddit is Jasper Stuyven though. What a pick that was :) I love that Belgian in his little polka dot shoes!

Haha Bryan coquard and Dylan groenewegen gobbing off that they are the fastest men in the peleton and was nowhere :p Dan McClay did a fantastic job though.
