I think ultimately having the pm confirmed will help matters.

I just think to say things were on the "up" today in the currency markets, whilst technically true by a fraction of a percentage point, is a bit of a stretch, especially when compared with last weeks data (which you sort of have to do as today's data on its own is meaningless without a larger reference point)

Its ok , your arbitrary point of where to compare it to is allowed but not mine...and unless you can factually state that the 1% rise in that hour or so was completely to do with leadsom stepping down, then it is just as arbitrary as mine. .

Now where is my bed :p

well it isn't arbitrary for a start... you could look at the bbc news feed today and see the initial rumours emerging along the time line

What relevance does the time '6am' have to this thread? None as far as I can see thus it is arbitrary

I can't factually state that every single order placed within that time period was in reaction to that as that simply isn't how markets work what I can say is that this was the news that came out immediately before than big move upwards and that it was the likely cause/trigger for that move

Remainers when markets drop = Direct result of the Brexit result

Remainers when markets rise = Just normal 'market noise'...noting to see here

Well the markets will rise and fall regardless of the UK's position in the EU. Always have, always will. Brexit does of course feed a lot of uncertainty and volatility into the markets though, there's little point even attempting to deny this.

The really telling effects of Brexit (for good or bad) will come in terms of the effect on GDP, trade deficit, employment levels, cost of living indexes, welfare, pensions, austerity and so on. Much of this is very hard to predict. It's a gamble and pretty much all outcomes are possible from economic revival, to economic disaster and all shades in between.

I'm not sure a gamble of this magnitude should have been decided on such a poorly thought out and ill debated referendum, but what's done is now done. The genie is out of the bottle and as a country we have to be very careful how we communicate our national 'wishes' to the genie because get it wrong and we might end up regretting for generations that we ever asked the question. And that's not 'Project Fear' it's the lessons of history.

Out of interest is every news site trying to make May look evil? The only images they ever seem to show of her are from slightly above. An odd angle.

There was a fairly positive article on her in the guardian too. Still, most articles insist on putting that top down style photo in.

Master stroke - appoint a Brexit minister to carry the poison chalice - Boris , Gove ?
perhaps more appropriate for a who is in the cabinet thread

I think Gove will be given a senior ministerial position, Boris not so much. I just hope she gets rid of Osborne who must be considered damaged goods now.
