I have literally given up on this game, Ive spent nearly a week on the first bit of Yarnham! I've tried, but its becoming not enjoyable at all now, it seems I can do well, get past a group and then get killed and have to do it all over again, which makes it a complete waste of time, and doesnt reward you for doing well until you get to a checkpoint, which seem to be a riduclous way off!

Back to FIFA :p

That's a shame as I really feel like the game starts to open up once you get to the Cathedral Ward which isn't that far away from Central Yharnam. You start to encounter some really cool enemies and get some nice loot. I feel like Central Yharnam breaks a lot of people as it can be very unforgiving especially if you are not used to the Souls style games. My brother got to the end of the area but gave up after repeatedly dying to the boss.

If you're dying repeatedly you really need to take a break and think about why because it's one of them games where you're not going to get lucky, it's not going to give you any breaks. If you don't alter your approach and adjust to the situation you're going to die, a lot. Blood echo farming is also an option. It's tedious but it will make things slightly easier, I do think too much of it can ruin the experience though.

The way I took Central Yharnam was slow and steady the whole way through, being super cautious. I almost never ran I kept at a slow walking/jog speed, I checked all my surroundings like corners and looking for enemies trying to blend in to the environment or playing dead. The minute you get cocky, the minute you start to get confident.. death probably isn't far away.

It's a tutorial area in a lot of ways. It teaches you (the hard way) how to scout ahead and take a measured approach, to look out for some of the dangers the game will be sending your way. I found it funny how quickly I was able to get through Central Yharnam on NG+ compared to NG, once you know what you're doing it's quite different.

Anyway, I hope you reconsider. In my opinion it is the best game so far of this current generation but at the same time I understand these games aren't for everybody, being stubborn definitely helps ^_^

Stick at it man. Check some guides - do whatever needs doing :) Like the Souls games, Bloodborne gets easier and easier the further you get into it. I'd rather it was the other way tbh, but it's always been like that. As Drunzer said, the game really opens up soon after.

You'd be missing out on the best game of this gen so far if you bail out now. The satisfaction of beating the bosses is immense in this game.

I do soul/blood echo farm early on in all these games to get the stats I want and the weapon power I feel I need to progress. It can be tedious but it's worth it, I think. As above don't be afraid to use guides - no shame in that at all and it might give you insight into secrets and things you didn't know.

Having just started this myself, all the above points are great. I've only beaten the first boss, and it's a great feeling when you do. I'm hooked now :)

Just came back to this after a long break and finally got through first part of the Old Hunters DLC. It seems to get significantly easier after the rock hard starting section and I'm finally moving along and having fun again.

I can't help but feel that I'll be way overlevelled when I finish it and return to the main quest though.

How far along in the main game are you? I'm sure you're supposed to be around level 65 before attempting the DLC.

There's no way you've fought Laurence yet... lol.

I pretty much beat Rom then jumped straight into the DLC. I'm about level 73 now I think.

Nah, not seen him yet. I'm sure he'll be a pushover. :)

I need to wait until everyone in my house is in bed before I can play it otherwise they get the blame for me dying constantly.

level 73 seems pretty high for just beating ROM if I remember correctly? You been grinding or going through Chalice Dungeons?

I wasn't level 73 when I beat Rom and probably around 65 when I went into the DLC.

I've not played a lot of the Chalice Dungeons but think I might need to have a look. Are they the best place to find Bloodstone Chunks?

You get a good few of them a bit further on in the main game. Pretty sure there's an enemy you can farm for them. I do think you are going to be pretty over levelled for the main quest when you get back on it.

To get a +10 weapon you need a Blood rock and there's only one in the main game. You need to do Chalice dungeons to get more of those.

I would highly recommend chalice dungeons, some really challenging enemies/bosses in them that you won't see in the main story. You'll get plenty of chunks in the more difficult ones.

Something I'm not sure about is whether I can complete the main quest and then go back to the Old Hunters now that I've activated it, or will access to it be closed off after a certain point in the quest regardless of whether you've been in it or not?

You can access it at any point, just don't finish the game.

The final boss is obvious as it is literally waiting for you and wont trigger until you go up to it.
You can backup your save (usb/cloud) at that point, get the bad ending, reload, get the other ending and then reload again and do the dlc.

Okay, thanks.

I beat Lady Maria last night so I'm going to keep chopping and changing between the main game and the DLC and leave the boss fight until I've did everything else.
