*** The Official Elite: Dangerous Thread ***

Spose the irony is, the srv looks a lot like land vehicle from aliens. That didn't go so well, when they paid a visit:)

2 days off work this long weekend, I dedicated the time to playing elite, the even greater thing about the vive... you can't see the sun is shining outside:D

Currently moving up the imperial order.

This morning I took my first trip outside "the bubble". Visited Obsidian Orbital to see what the Meta Alloy business was all about, and to get one for the Engineer stuff.

Then the news broke. :D

From what I've seen of the engineers, it seems to be little more than Pokemon in space.

I'll have a play with it, but it just looks like more pointless grind to me :(

How about adding some proper content / depth frontier?

Lots of stuff being added, but nothing that adds real depth to the core gameplay :(

Personally felt that it's been like this for quite some time. Hence I haven't played since March/April and more worryingly is that I don't feel any urge to dip my toes back in the water again anytime soon.

I might have a look back shortly after 2.2 drops, but even that is a maybe.

It's great news to finally see Frontier come to their senses and make use of Drew Wagar, I can't understand for the life of me why they didn't utilise him from the off. With out sounding too negative, this might be too little too late, time will tell.

At times I've felt the same thing. What content would you add?

People want pirate factions, ground storage, planet based 'air' combat, player faction station building, Alliance ships, more co-op level missions.

Though they've been clear they don't want people/player factions building their own stations.

For me, planet storage would be a no brainer. Good time/money sink and good for expansion sales. Perhaps it will come in the final bit of 2.4.

People want LOTS of things in game, me included. IMO, that's part of the issue.
FD is never going to keep us all happy as it'll be picking and choosing on what to implement, and what WE think is obvious, is not necessarily the same as others.
My present thoughts being that it'll get there eventually. As is, still a great game, even if I think it could definitely be improved with:
- Sorted interdictions
- Ensuring that "wings" really do work, allowing convoys and similar
- An effective law and order system that ensures a strong police presence in a well controlled system, that anarchy system are genuinely dangerous etc

That's awesome! How long did it take to get there?

Hours and hours and hours :)

I was watching youtube and reading websites at the same time so I wasn't as fast as I could have been. Also I kept stopping and scanning systems with interesting planets or stars.

Reckon it must have taken about 12 hours...

Well I've gone and ordered a rift. Very much looking forwards to exploring the galaxy from the inside :)

Good man - you will really enjoy it - very very immersive!

I've removed an engineer mod and I don't believe it was there to add back on later, but I can double check that. I have a feeling it's a case of modifying a specific module and if you change it then that's that. We will get module storage soon though!

One interesting fact which I was surprised by - if you lose your ship that has a modified module, when you buy it back with the insurance money you get the modified module back as well :) I learnt this after I got interdicted by an NPC in my Asp and messed up my getaway.

So I took a small jaunt out to Pleiades Sector AB-W B2-4 last night. With my newly modded (grade 5) FSD, my combat ready Anaconda made it there in just 14 jumps, not bad for just over 400ly. When I got there it was night time at the crash coordinates, and thick mist meant it was difficult to see from anything from a couple of thousand meters up. I took it lower and then I caught sight in the corner of my searchlight.

Given it was night time and closer examination was tricky, I camped out overnight and waited for dawn to come around. You start to get a sense of how big this thing is.

I was definitely miles off course with the planetary landing the other day as i had a deliver to a planetary station last night and other than the game freezing on atmosphere entry i made it and landed where i needed to.

On a sidenote does anyone feel using the docking computer cheating because it makes life so much easier! Lol! I was literally flying round the outside of this spinning rubix cube looking ship for 15 minutes the other day trying to find the damn entrance. These problems are now a thing of the past! Oh yeah, and I'm now rocking a Cobra. :)

With the Coriolis stations there's a few hints for finding the entrance which makes it easier.

1) When looking directly at the docking entrance, the station will be turning anticlockwise
2) The entrance typically faces whatever it is orbiting (planet, moon etc)
3) Lock the station with your targeting computer and then look at the holographic representation on the left. You'll see arrows on each face - these point to the entrance.

Using a docking computer isn't cheating but on a small ship it's taking up a slot which could be doing something far more useful.

Lowe has nailed it there. Maybe in a type 9 it's handy, but I would rather have cargo, shield cell banks, srv Bay, etc in that slot and zip in manually. Besides, it's easy and faster in a cobra!

Congrats on the cobra, it's great fun to fly. Just remember you are fast enough to outrun MOST ships (vipers and eagles will catch you) so if your Shields go down leg it.

Also, my rift has arrived. Can't wait to get home

I never used a docking computer until I got my anaconda. Makes life soooo much easier as you just can't see the landing pad otherwise.

I previously was coming in to land upside down to locate the pad and then rolling over to actually land on it.

Sooo tempted by the rift.

I have an Anaconda and i would never dream of using a docking computer, i just dont see the need lol.

Went through the hatch yesterday with 2 of us in Anacondas side by side no problems lol, the landing on a pad is easy in respects the landing guide appears once your in a certain range of the pad.

The only application I could imagine is landing a big ship on a 2g+ planet. I nearly always misjudge and risk pancaking into the ground in my anaconda. Thank god for tough shields!
