Road Cycling

I know I know but it feels like the wrong time of year to be splurging on a new shiny bike given winters around the corner.

I do quite like Campagnolo though, wonder would juicy offerings I can get within budget...

Perfect time. Sales etc, so you can look at it all winter!

As above, winter is the best time of year to buy.

Campag are about to release disc brakes so... :p Personally I would still not go that route simply due to the expense but if you like it and don't mind paying then why not?

I've got hydraulic discs on my PX and don't think I would go for them on my summer bike.

It's full Campagnolo Athena on the hire bike and I find the shifters particularly comfortable.

Budget would be £1750ish so maybe Potenza or Chorus?

Much research to do either way!

Just had my first of four accreditation sessions at Derby Velodrome.

Track cycling = awesome! :D

First time riding single speed, and fixed, certainly takes some getting used to. And trying not to look down when at the top of the banking :o

No worries & good work on your climbing, that first part (Upton hill) looks quite brutal (anything much over 15% is!). I had another crack at the steepest road I know of in Herefordshire last night, cracked on the 30% but think I can do it with fresher legs.

Cheers, any incline for me is hard work! I probably won't be able to get out again till Sunday now but I may try it again and see if I can do it without stopping, or even go all the way to Painswick Beacon.

Tacx Vortex Smart Trainer

best mid range "smart" trainer without going up towards the Wahoo KICKR Smart Turbo Trainer etc

Anyone got one? Fed up with my "dumb" trainer.

Nice 25 mile ride with a few mates tonight, as 3 were on MTB's and 2 on Hybrids, only 2 of us on road bikes it was actually the easiest in a long time :D

2.4miles and hammering is not good, no warm up etc. 2.4 miles is just pootle in in normal clothes surely?
Nope, fully kitted up. I'm a sweater so can't imagine it in 'work' clothes. I tend to wear shirt & trousers (technically I could wear whatever I wanted but old habits...)

I know it's not too good hammering it from cold so I try not to do it all the time. There's a couple of junctions to negotiate (no traffic lights any more!) and 2 gradual slopes with rough roads mean I sit and spin them out. Yesterdays was an exception where I'm threshold for the start (chasing a guy down)! ;)
Bah riding this carbon Wilier is going to make my PX feel like an old tank :(
Just remember it would've been 3 times the price when new! Could also shave another 500g+ off the Wilier with a better wheelset without really breaking the budget.

Is it SRAM on your PX? You'll probably find Shimano 105 even smoother for half the price of the Campag! ;)
I had to stop on the way home to help a mole to cross the road! Good deed for the day done.
Lazy moles. He should be digging under it!

Local Calper Memorial hill climb last night, I didn't head out but was a perfect evening for it: https://www.strava.com/segments/1088459

James Lowsey-W ('Hank', NFTO Pro) set a course record of 1 minute 37s  (not on Strava so doesn't count right? ;))

I've had 105 on my previous bike and thought it had a little more finesse than SRAM.

It's suited to the PX though.

Second hand / bargain Campagnolo bike nearer Christmas time I think!

Looking at your previous bike maintenance I assume your local shop is well versed in campag and has all the right (bespoke) tools....

If anyone goes to the sigma sport clearance today please can you post here if you spot any disc wheels (not brakes) or big rim front wheels you see.
