Road Cycling

All of the powahs

I was going to go for a slightly longer ride home today but then I had 2 beers at lunch and have been looking for skis online all afternoon so not sure it'll happen.

Check for dirt in your dropouts & give them a good clean. Check how true the wheel is yourself with a ruler against the rim (with tyres removed), you don't really need a truing stand for observing. As they've had a new bearing and been 'serviced' I'd expect less than 2mm lateral travel across the whole rim. Hopefully less/none!

There is a bit of give in a caliper anyway, pivots wear and some get stiffer so a new caliper might be advisable if they're old?

As it's 'under load' it could be unequal spoke tensions, they might not be 'loose' enough for you to tell, but one section of spokes looser than another would cause the rim to flex when under load, even if the spokes are not getting loose enough to feel by hand...

Ride over to Hereford and I'll check them with my park tension meter (or easier - ask the LBS if they checked them!) ;)

Thanks, will check all this and report back. I can flex the rim with my hand and have it contact the pad whilst secured in the drop out. I expect some movement but perhaps there's still too much and they need to sort the tension properly.

Will get a video.

it could just be your mad sick watttzzzzzz flexing the frame or wheel or both enough to make this happen. It's what i always blame.

Wattage bazooka 24/7.

Sealed bearing or cup and cone? Is the flex the rim itself (sorted by more spoke tension), the spokes themselves (not strong/tight enough, possibly need new spokes!) or the hub/axle (likely needs tightening if cup & cone, or a damaged/worn hub/axle which the LBS should've spotted).

Wutt-wattage more like?! :p;)

Sealed bearing.

I personally thought the spokes felt on the loose side but I was told vs. drive side they were fine.

I'll compare to my other wheel sets over the weekend.

Moar-wattage than you :p

Probably! :(

Weather's changed again so rain all day here tomorrow rather than just the afternoon... Better forecast on sunday but less likely I'll get a pass to ride.

So 2 choices - shop ride tomorrow, probably getting soaked & being the only one with any guards. Or ride solo on sunday possibly getting grief from the other half and having to cut ride short to paint/DIY.

I'm planning on a short easy ride on Sunday as I've then got to commute on Monday before a 100 miler on Tuesday to see the ToB and climb some hills with FT. I'm gonna die.

What's everyone's chamois cream of choice?

I've used Assos stuff for a while but recently it's been reacting with my skin a bit. /tmi

Any known skin friendly ones out there?

Awesome, you'll be fine, whenever he's smiling just comment "at least it's not as wet as your 300 miler"! ;):D

I use Assos and a LBS branded Morgan Blue Solid 'Wet Weather' one (that I bought from LBS when moving house and temporarily lost my Assos). I have the DHB left at work which I use for after work rides - I find it too gloopy/runny, much prefer the more solid cremes...

I don't have a problem with any of them reacting though, you're best seeing if you can get some samples from somewhere to try? The Morgan Blue is more of a waxy texture and doesn't seem to be as absorbed as the Assos which is more like a harder moisturiser (where the DHB is like a 'liquid moisturiser', the kind you find supplied in certain 'establishments' in Amsterdam/Prague...)
Well you did ask for advice, FT was worried last time I started talking about chamois creams lol

Sudocrem.

I've used both Sudocrem and Assos (obv not at the same time), and I find Assos to be far, far better - as long as you can get on with the tingly menthol effect! Sudocrem isn't as.. lubricating.. and it leaves residue on your clothing that doesn't wash off easily at low temperatures. Fine for shorter rides, like a metric, but I wouldn't want to use it for anything longer, personally.

Sounds good. What are your and FT's plans for Tuesday? I haven't got the time off work unfortunately.

Meet in Alderley Edge, Wizard, Brickworks, some other cat 3 I forget the name of, Goyt valley, back over the Cat and Fiddle, back to the Wizard from the other direction in time to see the pros coming over it, then head back to Tatton for the finish, route dependant on time and tiredness!

I've never had any issues with sudocrem, depends what your bum is used to. Don't mind the patch on shorts, not like it is visible.

Thanks for the help chaps, I've just seen Assos do some skin repair gel too which could well help me out.

I'll try and bag some samples (Cycle Show coming up so that's an opportunity!)

Sounds cool.

I'm doing a much more sedate ride with the club. Red House Farm for brekky at 10ish. Then south of Tatton for their first pass, dash over to the Wizard, then back to Tatton. Its an all ability club organised thing and since I've put my name forward as a possible club secretary, I feel obliged to do that. Hopefully get our jerseys on tv! :)

Just got myself some assos cream as I was doing an order for some High5 zero tablets in bulk!
Anyone know of any good innersoles? My mavic road shoes don't seem to fit in a way I like, hurts my heel as it feels the heel and bridge isn't supported well enough.

I use superfeet yellows in my Sidis but it is obviously dependant on your needs.
