The Air Rifles & Pistols thread

Had a go at buying a pistol but it turns out that air pistols are included in the arms embargo on russia so no baikal 46m for me.

The retailer has offered a FAS 6004 with any grip option for the same price even tho the display price on the FAS is about £120 more.

I did and still kinda do want the baikal with the oversized lever, higher fps and zero effort spent to make it look like a real gun.

But that's not an option right now. I'm going to have a look at the FAS 6004 in the shop tomorrow (today)

Would I be right in thinking it would be a safe punt to take the FAS and maybe trade it later if a Baikal turned up given that they are offering the FAS at a discount.

Just found loads of places selling them online in the UK, no idea if theyve got old stock or whatever? Prob also depends what price you were looking at too.

Comparing the two the Baikal looks to have a more competition focus but being russian/ other origin could have poor build quality. The FAS looks like a HW45 rep, again cant talk of quality but the 45 was absolutely beautiful when i last shot one.
 
When you say loads do you mean two?

Sportsmanguncentre was at £275 but is out and can't get more because of russian arms embargo

Solware is selling for £75 more plus £35 delivery plus RFD charge since I can't physically get to that store. Adds up to over £400...

Have you seen others?
 
To be fair I did just do a quick google and a price check. Got loads of hits but if you've done the research then cant argue with that.

Personally I'd got for a non russian model then, the embargo might stretch to spares too and tbh a few years ago they were quite dubious quality (no idea if that still applies of course).

Tried looking at the secondhand market perhaps?
 
So that's how I ended up with a new FAS 6004 with medium match grips for £275

Gun came with case, tiny bag of tools/spare o-ring.

Very nice, grips are solid wood, the rest is machined from solid metal.

My only problem is that I have greatly underestimated how loud these things are.

I believe the FAS is on the low side of things, under 400fps with .177 but firing one in the house sounds like someone cracking a whip.

Which somewhat ruins my plans.

Local air gun ranges are zero and the next best ones are not replying to communications :/

Which leaves one legit location for me, a 50 acre wood about 50 miles away surrounded by farms, farmers and fields the other side of dartmoor national park :(

Because its a pneumatic, even a pump one, I can dry fire it for practice so there's that I can do at home.

I will renew my poking of the airgun clubs, no one picks up the phone or replies to the emails :confused:
 
I remember test firing my P99 indoors when I got years ago, not a good move. Lovely looking pistol.

If that wood is public land it is a no go, if it is private make sure you have written consent and and something like BASC insurance. A well setup backstop is always a must too.

I would love to use my garden for 10m target but it isn't practical due to the layout and even slight risk of ricochet.
 
I was always fascinated by air weapons as a child but never owned anything beyond a gat gun. Even still to this date the only thing I own was an impulse purchase of some cheap second-hand Spanish carbine which i've only used once about 6 years ago.

Is it wrong to admire the beauty of such things but not have any interest in using them? :)

Absolutely not -I only had a Gat as a kid -never had air rifle and never picked up a shotgun till I was 40.

My longing has always been for a 1911 pistol - a real one but I also have no desire to go out shooting it - I would try it obviously but that would be it.

Alas it will never be now unless I go live in USA

No, it actually is a legit location. Its family owned and has a locked gate. No public rights of access. Only the local farmer, a deer hunter and the entire local hunt have permission to be on the land.

It's plastered over a hill but has a flat 60m crushed & compacted stone circular area halfway up for timber lorries to load up on. Which ought to be great for setting up on :)

Really insurance?
 
Sounds like a great site for a range :). I don't think BASC insurance isn't that expensive (last time I looked anyway) but worth looking at if shooting anywhere that isn't your own or has the potential for third parties to take issue. Good peace of mind if nothing else, worth taking a look at.

I would love to get a PCP and use the range at a local-ish shop range, if I can save up and I knew I could make the time.

I created a video on my Kalibre Cricket .22 air rifle.

It may help those who are looking to get a semi decent air rifle.

Warts and all review and not sponsored, just thought it would be fun to do.

 
Nice review, just swapped my HW100 KT for an FX Wildcat & loving it so far.

Only thing that put me off getting a cricket was the cocking lever been at the rear of the gun, prefer the more forward lever of the wildcat.

Thanks all,

Yup totally agree, it is a PITA the lever and the stupid 2nd magazine switch. I believe the default position of the mag switch is for single loading, but no-one I have seen uses the cricket for single loading.

I am after a FX Impact, that gun looks sweet even if they are as rare as hens teeth at the moment.
 
A follow up video showing the internal workings of the cocking / loading mechanisms and how to mod the rifle to make loading magazines a lot easier and even single handed.
