The Air Rifles & Pistols thread

Looking at the police website it seems to mainly effect "back-yard plinkers" as those with a "proper" reason to own an air weapon (pistol or rifle) such as for FT/HFT target shooting and pest control, can apply for a licence, which is much easier to get than a FAC.

It stiill won't have any effect on the scum with their £50 B2's shooting people though.

I'm a back yard plinker :(. I have zero interest in competing in HFT/FT with all the silly rules. I just like collecting airguns and informal target shooting. Really hope this doesn't make its way over to England. I'd just have to join a club I guess as there is no way I would be getting rid of my airguns.

I just part-exchanged that SIG gun I bought fairly recently -- turns out with the sight I had installed, you quickly realise the gun isn't precise at all. Quite fun to shoot, but really had to get all pelets into the target, at 10 yards, with a sight!

I traded it for a Hammelli/Humarex 850 -- same 88g CO2 cartridges, but hopefully a lot more precise!

I have had a BSA Airsporter in my attic for years. I wasn't going to sell it until this licence issue came up.
I don't want it to get melted, I would rather sell it so it can be used.

Where is the best place to sell an air rifle online?

My GF's grandad has an air rifle of sorts. Will see if I can find what it is.
If I'm allowed to play with it in the barn, will any scope most likely fit on it, and if so ... are they easy to zero? Just has iron sights on it at the moment.

airgunbbs.com and airgunforum.co.uk are both good sites for selling 2nd hand airguns on.

I'd just ignore it anyway.

This is the Brocock ban all over again. Pathetic.

******* right, I surrendered my me38 the day the ban came into effect as I couldn't stump up the cash for a locker and License application for it (was a student at the time) and a few months later was at a triathlon shooting event with the local police supervising. A few people were using brococks and none of them were licenced, nobody said a word, I was livid. Still miss it now.

Got my silencer through today from konceptus.pl and I'm over the moon with it. I sent him the size of my barrel so he could machine the taper down to the barrel, so it blends in and looks like it is supposed to be there. It turned out perfectly, he also did that for no extra cost! The whole thing was like 35 euros inc delivery from Poland.

The finish isn't quite as shiny as the Webley finish, but it looks great to me. I could have probably asked him to custom polish it but didn't think at the time. I'll probably send the whole lot off to get re-polished and blacked at some point as there are a few marks on the metalwork of the gun I am not happy with.

Highly recommend konceptus.pl if you want a nice looking steel silencer. It is just a simple set of baffles inside, so wont be as effective as a Weihrauch silencer etc, but on a springer its perfect.

Sadly it depends. Most air rifles will have a dove tail rail on the top which standard scope mounts and therefore scope will fit.
Some old rifles don't have the dove tails.

As to zero. it's pretty easy if you can shoot the rifle accurately. Draw a dot on a piece of paper. Shoot 3 shots at it. They should form a group. move the turrets a few clicks in the appropriate direction and try the 3 shots again.
repeat.

Looking for a bit of advice, I'm looking for a Springer for a bit of target shooting in the back garden and I'm quite taken with the hw97. I'm looking at importing (either Netherlands or Germany) I'm aware of the limits, krale sell a 16j variant and sellers in Germany a 7j. At the moment I'm thinking of going with the lower of the two, due to the fact I'm only target shooting and my garden is only about 25m long. I'm guessing this would be plenty for my needs? But should I buy an export spring at the same time just in case I sell it on? I'm guessing the low power limit would affect resale value.

The lower powered spring will be absolutely fine for your back yard plinking. To be fair I wouldn't even bother with the uprated one. If you need one in the future you can buy one here or drop your rifle off at a gunsmiths to put one in for you.

I recently bought a HW95 from Germany and it was horrible to shoot at 7j. Very long lock time, with loads of recoil and twang. I too thought I could keep the rifle at 7j, but it was just too hold sensitive due to the extended lock time and the twang was annoying after a while.
